Footage reportedly from the set of a new The Legend of Zelda movie has leaked online. Although fans are excited for next year’s The Super Mario Galaxy movie, this leak offers a potential first look at what a Zelda film might be like.
Riding the high from the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo and Sony are now teaming up to make a Legend of Zelda movie. Announced last November, the film has recently begun production in New Zealand. We already know some details, including that Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link and Bo Bragason will play Zelda. Wes Ball, who has previously expressed his enthusiasm for the series, is directing the movie.
Leaked Footage From Zelda Movie Production Allegedly Surfaces Online
Even though the project is being kept under wraps, videos of the actors and crew may have been leaked online. Several new clips posted on Instagram seem to show the movie being filmed in a forest. One of the leaked videos features an actress who looks like Bo Bragason, dressed in clothing similar to Princess Zelda’s outfit from recent 3D games. She’s seen walking towards horses and interacting with a new character, who some fans speculate could be Impa. Many believe the actress is Dichen Lachman, known for her roles in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Apple TV+’s Severance. Interestingly, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was directed by Wes Ball.
Another short video shows actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. In the clip, he’s wearing a green tunic – a classic outfit for the character in the Nintendo games – and appears to be putting on a cloak.
While Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any of the leaked footage, it might not be real. However, filming for The Legend of Zelda movie began in November, which adds some weight to the leak. For now, fans will probably need to wait for an official announcement from Nintendo to get solid details about the movie, currently planned for release on May 7, 2027.
