Rumor: Zelda Switch 2 Leak Teases New Features for the Next Game

As a huge Zelda fan, I’m getting really excited about the next game! Apparently, a recent leak suggests they might build the whole game around switching between different dimensions – how cool would that be? Nintendo hasn’t shown us anything official yet, but after how amazing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were (and even Echoes of Wisdom was pretty good!), everyone’s expecting something special. This leak might be our first hint at what the first big Zelda game on the Switch 2 could be like.

Although official details are still under wraps, the next major Zelda game has the potential to significantly change the series. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were groundbreaking, essentially redefining what a Zelda game could be, so its follow-up on the Switch 2 will have a lot to live up to. After nearly ten years of exploring the Hyrule introduced in those games, Nintendo is probably planning to innovate again, a shift they started with Echoes of Wisdom. A recent leak suggests we may soon learn what those innovations will be.

Leaker Suggests Switch 2 Zelda Game Could Feature “Cross-Dimensional” Puzzle-Solving

During the December 27th episode of the XboxEra podcast, co-host Shpeshal Nick discussed potential gameplay features for the next Legend of Zelda game, based on information from a source. According to the leak, the first major Zelda title for the Switch 2 will use an updated version of the engine used in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, taking advantage of the new console’s improved power. However, the most intriguing part of the leak suggests that much of the gameplay will involve solving puzzles by opening and manipulating objects through dimensional rifts. This would fit with the recent direction of the series, and after Echoes of Wisdom introduced innovative combat, dimensional travel could be the next step in giving players more freedom and creative options.

A key feature of recent Zelda games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is giving players lots of freedom to solve puzzles in creative ways. Echoes of Wisdom started exploring puzzles that involved different dimensions, and the next game seems to be expanding on that idea. One example of how this might work is using something in one dimension – like directing a bull – to affect something in another, such as opening a door. Another possibility is manipulating an environment in one dimension – filling a room with water, for instance – to change an obstacle in a different dimension, like making it float.

The possibility of multiple dimensions isn’t new to the Zelda series, but the next game might really explore this idea and change how we play. Many fans are hoping Nintendo will take a big risk with the new Zelda, as Breath of the Wild drastically reinvented the franchise more than any previous game. While there’s no news on when we’ll see the game, industry insider Shpeshal Nick believes the release is still several years away.

Like any unconfirmed information, fans should be skeptical about these details. However, it’s still fun to imagine what’s coming next for the popular series. Beyond gaming, a Legend of Zelda movie is scheduled for release in May 2027, giving fans a definite event to anticipate.
