Rumors Pointing To A New Steam Console From Valve

As a seasoned gaming enthusiast with decades under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of consoles from the Atari 2600 to the latest-gen behemoths. The whispers of Valve diving back into the console market have sent a tingle down my spine, much like the first time I booted up Half-Life on my trusty ol’ PC.

It seems that Valve may be working on a brand-new Steam console for gamers, based on recent speculations and data mined information. The company from Washington is reportedly developing a traditional gaming system codenamed “Fremont,” along with the upcoming Steam Controller 2 and Deckard VR headset.

On several social media updates, an individual identified as Valve insider Brad Lynch shared his observations that potentially indicate the development of new SteamOS hardware.

Initially, he explained the reason behind its incompatibility with existing gadgets such as the Steam Deck. Lynch pointed out that the indications point towards a full-sized HDMI port being directly wired to the card rather than being linked through USB-C.

According to Lynch, all mentions of Fremont involve checking if it has an HDMI Type-A port, which is common on gaming consoles and desktop computers without integrated graphics units (GPUs) that possess their own HDMI outputs.

In different aspects of the project, the AMD Lilac development board is utilized, while the final product’s firmware is being tailored specifically for this new device under development. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that Quanta Computer, the maker of the Steam Deck, is offering input on the emerging system.

There’s been no official response from Valve regarding the rumors, so all information should be viewed with caution until it’s verified. However, it’s important to mention that the company is drawing close to the 10-year mark since they launched their first Steam Controller and Steam Machines.
