RuneScape Developer Jagex’s New Game Uses Unreal Engine 5

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say I’m quite intrigued by the news about Jagex developing a new game set in the RuneScape Universe. I’ve been an avid RuneScaper since its early days, and the thought of exploring a whole new open-world survival game within that universe is absolutely thrilling.

A fresh open-world survival game is under development, utilizing the advanced Unreal Engine 5. This marks a significant shift from the Runetek engine that powers RuneScape.

Jagex hasn’t revealed any further information regarding the game as of now. But they are actively seeking participants for an Alpha testing phase.

The company shared on social media that they excel most when collaborating with gamers, and they’re currently seeking game testers for their Closed Alpha phase.

For those interested, the Closed Alpha phase is exclusively accessible via PC, as stated by Jagex. However, keep in mind that opportunities are limited, so act fast if you want to participate. To join, it’s essential that you have an active Discord and Steam account.

In February 2024, Jagex got acquired by CVC Capital Partners for an estimated $1.1 billion. After the sale, a new chairman was selected and took office in March 2024.

When appointed as chairman, Marc Allera expressed enthusiasm about contributing towards realizing the objectives and strategies for RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, as well as other associated game titles.
