The story unfolds in a world where humans have abandoned Earth, allowing rabbits to assume dominance. In this world, our protagonist Stamp is recognized as a “rust digger,” delving into the colossal human debris pile known as Smokestack Mountain in pursuit of his long-lost daughter.

Recently, Game Rant had a chat with Urobuchi, who shared some intriguing details about the narrative of “Rusty Rabbit”. This includes characters like Stamp and Junkster, as well as the enigmatic electric gang known as the BBs. Despite this being his first action game, Urobuchi’s 15 years of anime writing experience are evident in the storytelling.

Rusty Rabbit Features Only One Playable Mech for a Reason

It’s not surprising that players of the game, Rusty Rabbit, will be able to acquire multiple upgradable tools and weapons throughout their gaming experience. These tools will aid them in defeating enemies and finding routes to advance through the game’s levels. Among these weapons are a blade, a shotgun, a drill, and a hammer. Games like this often let players experiment with different mechs and equipment setups, offering diverse playstyles, thanks to the variety of tools and weapons available. However, when asked if Rusty Rabbit would offer more than one playable mech, Urobuchi had an unusual concept in mind.

In essence, while I won’t reveal crucial plot details, let me tell you this game isn’t solely about Stamp; it’s equally Junkster’s tale. You see, Junkster is more than just a companion to Stamp in this game – they’re deeply connected. As you journey through the game, I encourage you to uncover the significance of their bond and the reasons behind it.

In the development of the game “Rusty Rabbit,” writer Urobuchi intends for Junkster to be its only playable mech character, contributing significantly to the game’s narrative. The BB characters emerged impromptu in my creative process. Initially, they weren’t included in the initial plan, but were incorporated during the development phase to clarify stage mechanics. Given the strict supervision schedule, I had to swiftly rewrite their entire narrative, which inadvertently led them towards more humorous personas.

In a somewhat humorous fashion, the BBs appear to contribute significantly to the new player experience within the game “Rusty Rabbit.” These characters could potentially have substantial roles in the grand narrative of the game. Apart from the BBs, players will find themselves exploring the Brass Village, a bustling hub filled with unique personalities. The village offers various establishments such as a parts store, a diner, a bar, and even a priest named Bower who can provide valuable information about Smokestack Mountain for a fee.

In the intriguing narrative of “Rusty Rabbit“, there’s certainly a lot more to uncover beyond Stamp and Junkster, but it’s evident that these two characters will be the main focus. As Urobuchi hinted, eager gamers will need to delve into “Rusty Rabbit ” when it launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on April 17 to discover more about the unique bond between Stamp and his mech Junkster.
