It’s been a long, rough road for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.
Although it was announced in 2021, the game has since changed hands from one developer to another. Initially, Aspyr Media was in charge of the project, but due to some significant development issues that surfaced in 2022, causing delays, the game was put on hold indefinitely. However, by 2024, we learned that the remake had resumed production under Saber Interactive, as mentioned in their investment report.
As a die-hard gamer, I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated that, amidst all the hype surrounding the remake of KOTOR, there’s been absolutely no solid news about its release. It’s been one rollercoaster ride after another with updates and rumors, but nothing concrete yet.
Today, we might have our most concrete information that the game is still in active development.
Tim Willits, Chief Operating Officer at Saber Interactive, recently posted an update about the studio on a platform once referred to as Twitter.
International game developer Saber Interactive stands among the globe’s largest independent studios, crafting a diverse array of titles spanning multiple gaming categories. Our ongoing projects continue to evolve, and as new developments arise, we look forward to sharing exciting updates on our upcoming games when it’s something truly noteworthy!
Saber Interactive Confirms KOTOR Is Still In Development Without Explicity Saying It’s Still In Development
As a gamer, I was trying to understand what Willits meant by his recent statement, but it wasn’t entirely clear. If only he had come right out and said, “Hey guys, don’t worry – the Knights of the Old Republic remake is definitely happening!” Then there wouldn’t have been any room for confusion or doubt in my mind.
Absolutely! It’s correct that Saber Interactive is actively developing several games at the moment. However, when considering their profile and level of anticipation, I think it’s fair to say that none compare to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR).
According to Saber CEO Matthew Karch’s statements last year, they are actively working on the KOTOR remake and have been in various media outlets. However, they are being cautious about revealing any game footage until it is fully prepared. They aim to alleviate concerns that the project might have been scrapped by assuring that the game is progressing well and their goal is to surpass consumer expectations.
At some point, we’ll unveil the first play session of the forthcoming KOTOR remake. Fingers crossed, it happens sooner than later.
