Saber Reaffirms They Aren’t Abandoning Space Marine 2 for Part 3; Upcoming Details Revealed

Summary

  • Space Marine 3 won’t end support for Space Marine 2
  • Saber CEO prefers hiring outside the US
  • Space Marine 2 Patch 7 to bring new DLC in April

Recently, Saber Interactive unveiled that the follow-up to their latest game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, will be named Space Marine 3. This wasn’t unexpected as Space Marine 2 had already proven to be a massive hit for Saber, its publisher Focus Home Entertainment, and license holder Games Workshop.

The announcement of a sequel brought excitement, but it sparked concerns among some that it might signal a decrease in support for Space Marine 2, allowing Saber to solely focus on Space Marine 3. However, luckily, this isn’t going to happen.

Saber Won’t Be Shifting Personnel From Space Marine 2 To Space Marine 3

According to the recent community update from Saber, it’s important to clarify that while they are working on the sequel, they are not discontinuing support for Space Marine 2.

To clarify matters: Contrary to some misunderstandings, Space Marine 3 does not signal the conclusion of Space Marine 2’s development. Instead, it’s a separate project altogether. No teams are moving away from Space Marine 2, and we remain committed to adding exciting new content to this game. We have plenty more features and surprises in store for the upcoming months, including a fresh character class, additional operations, melee weapons, and much more! Believe us, there are secrets yet to be uncovered even by the most diligent dataminers.

Once more, Space Marine 3 is emphasized by Saber as still “several years from launch,” with the recent announcement indicating only the initiation of its developmental phase.

In alignment with the expressed backing, Saber has also discussed the imminent significant upgrade for Space Marine 2, which is due in April.

Space Marine 2 Patch 7 For “Trygon Update” Out In April

Space Marine 2’s Patch 7 is slated for release in “mid-April” and will bring new DLC content.

New Content:

  • Space Wolves Chapter Pack
  • Imperial Fists Champion Pack
  • New Map for PvE
  • Perks Rework
  • Private Lobbies in PvP

In Patch 7, players who enjoy playing without opponents can look forward to the debut of the Exfiltration map. As Saber explains, “Exfiltration” unfolds on the planet Avarax. Your task is to extract a Tech-Priest residing within an Adeptus Mechanicus facility. The tricky part is that you’ll need to traverse Trygon territory to get there, and you’ll have to fend off the persistent attacks of this fearsome creature to complete your mission successfully.

The much-anticipated addition, Community Lobbies, will also be incorporated in the upcoming update. This allows players an exciting opportunity to tailor their Player vs Player (PvP) encounters with numerous tweakable settings.

  • tag with up to 11 other players (6v6 lobbies)
  • toggle friendly fire
  • change the class limit restriction
  • change the score/time limit
  • modify the damage multipliers of the weapons

This presentation only highlights some fresh additions, but it doesn’t cover all the modifications to the game mechanics that are part of the update.

If you haven’t had a chance to try Space Marine 2 yet, it’s been one of the unexpected successes in 2024. On Open Critic, the game has a noteworthy “Strong” rating with an average score of 81 based on 156 reviews.
