Tom Holland’s fourth “Spider-Man” movie is preparing for filming, and as always, it’s time for some exciting cast updates! One recent announcement has got fans of a specific, nostalgic Netflix show quite excited.
It has been reported by Deadline that Sadie Sink, famous for her roles in “Stranger Things,” “The Whale,” and two “Fear Street” films, will appear alongside Tom Holland in Sony and Marvel’s fourth “Spider-Man” movie. At present, details about the upcoming film are scarce beyond the confirmation of Holland’s return, Sink’s casting, its release date set for July 2026, and the fact that Destin Daniel Cretton from “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will direct. The identity of the character Sink will portray remains undisclosed, leaving fans wondering… who might she be playing? As always, speculation is rampant with a popular guess being a powerful mutant character.
Option A: Jean Grey
The Frontrunner By All Accounts

For several weeks, there have been whispers about actress Sink potentially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jean Grey. This casting could make sense if Marvel plans to reboot the X-Men franchise from its inception in 1963, with Jean Grey being one of the original X-Men members. If Sink is indeed playing the role of Marvel Girl (or the Phoenix), it would be intriguing to introduce a new generation of mutants within the MCU, particularly for a future Spider-Man film.
Option B: Mary Jane Watson
The Obvious One, Duh

It’s no secret that the casting of Sink, a well-known young redhead in Hollywood, as Mary Jane Watson would be an expected move, given her iconic role in Peter Parker’s life (unless comic book writers at Marvel change things up). Since we all know Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is already paired with Zendaya’s character Michelle Jones-Watson as MJ, could the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduce a new Mary Jane Watson now that they’ve seemingly forgotten about Peter Parker? After all, stranger things have happened.
Option C: Firestar
The Left-Field Option

In my opinion, it feels like a brilliant move for Firestar, the fiery-haired mutant, to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in an upcoming Spider-Man film. Although she’s had a diverse career spanning X-Men, Avengers, Hellions, New Warriors, and West Coast Avengers, she actually originated as a supporting character in the early 1980s cartoon series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Yes, you got it right; this show brought together Spider-Man, Iceman, and the newly introduced Firestar since they couldn’t secure the rights to the Fantastic Four’s Human Torch at that time.
Nostalgia can be a potent force, and witnessing Firestar team up with Spidey on the big screen would certainly feel more than symbolic – it might even seem a little poetic!
Option D: Black Cat
The Yin To Spidey’s Yang

If Sony had followed through with their plan for a standalone “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe” of films, the character Black Cat would have appeared on screen much earlier, possibly in the abandoned project called “Silver & Black“. However, it seems that audiences aren’t as keen on multiple Spider-Man-related movies without, you know, Spider-Man himself. Could Sadie Sink play Felicia Hardy? Definitely! The dynamic of a morally ambiguous character like Catwoman has proven successful for Batman in various films over the years. This possibility isn’t as prevalent as some others that are widely rumored, but it’s not entirely out of the question, even though one specific Black Cat casting choice has been disputed by series producer Amy Pascal.
Option E: Silver Sable
The “Um, Probably Not”

Indeed, Silvija Sablinova, or simply Silver Sable as she’s more commonly known, has been a mainstay in Marvel Comics since 1985. Over the years, she’s graced various platforms beyond the comic book pages, such as numerous Spider-Man cartoons from the mid-’90s onwards, and even had a significant role in Insomniac Games’ 2018 Spider-Man video game. This formidable mercenary, who adheres to an honor code, often leads a team of similar associates known as the Wild Pack. Given Marvel Studios’ plans for introducing either Black Cat or Silver Sable into the MCU, it seems that the choice might lean towards Black Cat due to her familiarity and popularity among fans.
Option F: Gwen Stacy
The Least-Likely Choice

It appears that the team-up of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in “The Amazing Spider-Man” movies was one of the few successful elements. The chemistry between them was outstanding on screen, and it’s debatable how much of that was influenced by their real-life relationship at the time. When they shared scenes, it was electric. Fans were even given a tamer version of the well-known “Night When Gwen Stacy Died” storyline in 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. Characters similar to the original Gwen Stacy are significant figures in both Sony’s “Spider-Verse” movies and the preschool animated series on Disney Channel, “Spidey & His Amazing Friends”. While unexpected events have occurred in the MCU—like projects dedicated to the Eternals and Inhumans—this seems like an unlikely possibility.
Who does Sadie Sink portray in the upcoming Spider-Man film? Frankly, it’s anyone’s guess. Could she potentially take on the role of Natasha Romanoff reborn? Or perhaps she might be Steve Rogers’ long-lost child? By the way, has there been any recent news about Kang the Conqueror?
