In the world of One Punch Man, not many characters can elicit a serious response from him, but when situations become challenging, Saitama steps up his game. This powerful move, fittingly named The Serious Series, is a collection of techniques that Saitama reserves for his most formidable adversaries.

In contrast to other extraordinary moves in the One Punch Man universe, or typically found in anime, Saitama’s Serious Series moves are remarkably straightforward. These moves usually consist of basic attacks or actions, with the uniqueness stemming from the fact that they’re executed with an unusually high level of force compared to his regular strength, which is already impressive. For instance, a Serious Punch is simply a punch that packs a greater punch than Saitama’s usual punches.

Serious Punch and All Its Variations

The “Regular” Serious Punch

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 36, “The Power of Boros”

For the first time, during his battle with Boros, Saitama demonstrated his initial powerful punch known as the Serious Punch. This formidable alien overlord triggered Saitama’s hidden potential by firing his ultimate attack: Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon. In retaliation, Saitama showcased the very first instance of a move from the Serious Series within the series, which is essentially an extremely powerful punch. So strong, it brought Boros close to death and even split the clouds in a straight line across Earth. It’s worth mentioning that Boros sensed Saitama was holding back for this attack, suggesting that future Serious Punches might be even more potent.

In such a situation, I’ll employ a decisive action of mine. Powerful Punch: Critical Strike Edition, in this instance. (Saitama referring to Boros)

At other instances, he executed the Serious Punch against opponents such as Centichoro, Evil Natural Water, and Garou. Contrary to its title, the Serious Punch does not necessarily conclude the battle right away. Tougher adversaries like Garou or those relatively immune to regular attacks such as Evil Natural Water have managed to withstand it.

Serious Punch²

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 167 “Io”

To execute the All-Directional Powerful Punch, Saitama utilized the Double Serious Punch to collide with Garou’s Saitama Serious Punch mode. If it weren’t for Blast and a handful of others who diverted the majority of the ensuing blastwave into deep space, Earth would have been destroyed.

It’s interesting to note that the impact wouldn’t have merely obliterated Earth; instead, the shockwave eliminated several stars from existence. Remarkably, a portion of this forcefield was potent enough to catapult characters like Saitama and Garou onto one of Jupiter’s moons, Io. Moreover, the Serious Punch² is not just a more powerful version of the Serious Punch; it’s also the most potent move in the entire Serious Series thus far.

Omnidirectional Serious Punch

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 167 “Io”

In a swift, dizzying dance, Saitama zips around his foe so quickly that multiple copies of himself seem to appear, each appearing ready to land a blow on the opponent from every angle simultaneously. The astonishing speed at which Saitama moves is such that even Garou in Cosmic Fear Mode struggles to follow him and can only perceive the afterimages. Nevertheless, what may seem like numerous punches being thrown, is actually just one punch, as all other “punches” are merely the aftereffects of Saitama’s rapid movement.

Saitama’s Other Serious Series Moves

Serious Sideways Jumps

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 44, “Accelerate”

Employing a similar approach as his Omnidirectional Serious Punch, Saitama executes his formidable Sideways Serious Leaps by jumping rapidly from side to side at unfathomable velocities. These leaps will create a bewildering trail of afterimages, much like before, to perplex the adversary. The harm is inflicted by the powerful shockwave generated by these jumps, which was potent enough to render Speed-o’-Sound Sonic unconscious.

Serious Water Gun

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 107, “Powerful Enemy”

In a seemingly casual manner, all of Saitama’s attacks appear straightforward due to their simplicity, yet they can escalate to an astonishing level of absurdity. For instance, there’s his Serious Water Gun attack, which might seem as ordinary as spraying water in a pool, but the power behind it is beyond comparison. This attack, performed by squirting liquid from his hands, was able to counteract an attack that drew its strength from the Earth’s core itself, even when Saitama used lava instead of water. It’s safe to say that regardless of the substance he used, the outcome would have been similar.

Serious Table Flip

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 167, “Io”

In a remarkable display, Saitama instead of flipping a table as we commonly know, shoves his hand into the ground, causing an immense upheaval. What he actually turns over is not a mere piece of furniture but Io’s entire crust. This colossal flip sent Io’s outer layer soaring into space, where it seemed to remain suspended in orbit for the remainder of the battle.

Serious Sneeze

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man manga chapter 168, “Awakening of the Gods”

In simpler terms, “The Powerful Sniff” is one of Saitama’s strongest moves in the Serious Series, not involving a punch. This gentle blow from his nose had the power to obliterate half of Jupiter, and let me add, the sneeze originated from Io, one of Jupiter’s moons. Incidentally, Garou managed to dodge this move at the last minute; if he hadn’t, the battle could have ended instantly.

Serious Headbutt

  • First Appeared In: One Punch Man Webcomic chapter 92

In the world of One Punch Man, Saitama employed an unseen move known as the Serious Headbutt against Garou during their fight. This maneuver effectively deflected Garou’s punch while simultaneously shattering his arm. Unique to the webcomic version of this franchise, the Serious Headbutt has yet to be depicted in the manga. Given its absence in the source material, it remains uncertain whether this move will appear in the anime adaptation; however, let’s hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed!
