Summary
- Samsung manufactures chips and pushes for OLED panels in the Switch 2 refresh.
- Nintendo can’t meet Switch 2 demand, so don’t expect an OLED version soon.
- Expect a pricier OLED Switch 2 version released a few years post-original to revamp hardware.
Although the Nintendo Switch 2 hasn’t been released yet, rumors about its update are circulating, and these rumors appear credible based on past trends in Nintendo console launches.
According to Bloomberg’s report, it is now known that Nintendo will have Samsung produce the chips for the upcoming Switch 2. This move should help Nintendo keep up with the high demand from consumers for this gaming console.
Switch 2 Refresh Might Feature An OLED Screen

According to an unnamed source familiar with the matter, in addition to supplying components for Nintendo, the tech company is reportedly trying to have their OLED screens utilized on the upcoming version of the Switch gaming console.
It’s plausible to think that a second version of the Nintendo Switch with an OLED screen might be released, similar to how the original model was updated with an OLED variant in its 2021 system refresh.
On its own, the Switch 2 sports a 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen, boasting a 1080p resolution (279 pixels per inch) and High Dynamic Range (HDR), capable of adjusting its refresh rate up to 120 times per second. When connected to a dock, this console can amplify its output to 1440p at 120 frames per second or 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with HDR support.
Given that Nintendo is struggling to fulfill demand for the regular edition of the Switch console, it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing the release of the OLED Switch 2 anytime in the near future.
Keep in mind that while it seems likely, take this information with some skepticism for the time being. However, given current industry trends, it is reasonable to anticipate a new Nintendo console update soon.
It’s likely that the OLED model of the Switch 2, given its upgraded features, will carry a higher price tag than the current $449.99. Nintendo might unveil this enhanced version several years after the initial launch of the Switch 2, aiming to refresh the hardware and cater to gamers seeking a more premium experience.
On June 5th, we’ll launch The Switch 2. Not only does it boast enhanced graphics, but it’s also packed with long-awaited features as per the community’s requests.
