Samurai Build Guide for Elden Ring

Samurai Build Guide for Elden Ring

As a seasoned Elden Ring adventurer with countless hours spent traversing the Lands Between, I must say that the weapon and armor combinations you’ve proposed are truly a sight for sore eyes! The Rakshasa Armor set, paired with the Great Katana, presents an intriguing balance between defense and offense. It’s like donning a suit of armor that not only protects but also empowers you, reminiscent of those old knights who danced their way through battles!

As a seasoned gamer embarking on my Elden Ring adventure, I’ve found that the starting classes serve as solid foundations for crafting unique characters. While it’s possible to transform any class into any desired build given enough time and dedication, the Samurai stands out as an exceptional choice, especially for beginners.

In this guide, we will present two effective Samurai character builds in Elden Ring, divided into sections for the Main Game and Shadow of the Erdtree. While there are numerous methods to develop a Samurai Class, these examples demonstrate the potential of the initial stats provided to the class exceptionally well.

Base Game Build (Level 150)

Samurai Build Guide for Elden Ring

For our base-game build, we’re going to keep things simple with an Arcane Build, leveraging the Bleed status effect on the Uchigatana to tear through most bosses. This means we won’t need to raise our Strength or Dexterity past the starting values, since the Uchigatana is the Samurai starting weapon and we already have the stats to use it properly. This build will be for Level 150, which is roughly where you’ll end up by playing through the base game normally and is the recommended level for entering the DLC if you plan to do so.

Stats

Samurai Build Guide for Elden Ring
Stat Level
Vigor 60
Mind 30
Endurance 15
Strength 12
Dexterity 15
Intelligence 9
Faith 28
Arcane 60

To begin your journey, it’s advisable to prioritize increasing Vigor and Arcane initially, aiming to reach the soft caps at 60. This will ensure you have enough health to survive attacks and increase your damage output, as well as speed up the build-up of bleed status. Once you’ve raised Vigor to 60 and Arcane to a minimum of 40 (ideally 60), consider investing points in Faith as well. Reaching 25 Faith will enable you to utilize Golden Vow for enhancing both your attack and defense power. After Vigor, Arcane, and Faith have reached 60, 60, and 28 respectively, focus on improving the Mind stat to around 30 and Endurance to 15. This balance will provide you with a good amount of Focus Points for employing weapon arts and casting spells, along with some extra stamina for attacking and dodging.

Weapons and Spells

As a gamer, I’ll be focusing on the Uchigatana for this build. I’ll grab an extra one from the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave, which gives me the flexibility of dual-wielding. Don’t forget to snag the Dragon Communion Seal from the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave too. This lightweight seal primarily scales with the Arcane Stat, making it a great choice even without a significant investment in Faith. Keep one Uchigatana in my right hand and another in my left. Slot the Seal in my second left-hand slot for quick access when needed.

1. For your right-hand Uchigatana, consider using a Blood Infusion which quickly causes bleeding and provides slight healing. If you encounter an opponent resistant to bleed, switch to an Occult infusion for increased damage instead. Your left-hand Uchigatana can be imbued with Cold, best achieved through the use of a Crystal Shard. Although many opt for Cold due to the additional damage it deals upon activation (a valuable aid), its primary advantage in this build lies in intensifying the damage taken by the affected enemy.

Due to a previous adjustment that reduced the stacking of statuses when wielding two swords, it’s worth considering the advantages and disadvantages of employing a single sword to amass a single status quickly or of using both swords simultaneously to apply two different status effects, albeit more gradually.

In the realm of magical abilities, we’ll employ spells that boost our offensive and defensive power, while others like these enable us to stun enemies with heavy but slower strikes. You may also opt for a spell to weaken foes or another to inflict scarlet rot and deal ranged damage from afar.

Talismans

Talisman Effect
Provides a 20% attack bonus whenever blood loss occurs nearby.
Provides an attack bonus as you land successive attacks, which increases from 6%, to 8%, and finally to 13%. as you continue to land attacks.
Landing successive attacks heals you for 30+3% of your Max HP.
Raises Physical Defense by 20%.

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent battling my way through various game worlds, I can confidently say that having the right loadout is crucial when tackling tougher enemies. This Talisman setup, in particular, offers a balanced approach to combat, providing enhanced damage capabilities, self-healing options, and increased physical defense for those intense showdowns against formidable foes.

Shadow of the Erdtree Build (Level 150)

Samurai Build Guide for Elden Ring

The Base Game Build above remains a viable option in Shadow of the Erdtree, with new talismans and Incantations (Like and the Bayle Incantations) providing more versatility than ever. That said, the DLC also adds a bunch of new weapons that are suitable for a Dex build, so for the sake of variety, we’ll give you a viable Dex build using a few new items alongside some old staples. The build will be at level 150 to reflect the recommended entry level for the DLC but will include recommendations about where to invest extra points as you continue to level up.

Stat Level
Vigor 60
Mind 20
Endurance 30
Strength 14
Dexterity 80
Intelligence 9
Faith 8
Arcane 8

In my gaming adventure, I’ve tailored this character build around maximizing Dexterity for optimal weapon damage. Naturally, a touch of 60 Vigor is a must-have, while Mind and Endurance are set at 20 and 30 respectively, ensuring decent stamina and a reasonable amount of FP for Ashes of War usage. I’ve added a couple of points to Strength, allowing me the flexibility to wield Great Katanas if desired.

Weapons and Armor

At first, we’ll focus on using the gear from the mountains, or the equipment from the mountain peaks. Once we manage to reach and conquer the Nameless Mausoleum in the east and defeat Rakshasa, we can exchange this for a different set. This set has relatively weak defenses compared to its weight but boosts damage by 2% per piece. Wearing all four pieces of Rakshasa Armor increases your overall damage output by 8%, making it a great complement to our chosen weapons.

Regarding weapons, we offer some fantastic downloadable content (DLC) choices here. The particular DLC weapon can be obtained without defeating any DLC boss and offers a slower yet more damaging alternative to the Uchigatana from the original game. It performs well when infused with Keen, maximizing your Dexterity. This weapon also enables it to deliver powerful overhead strikes. Additionally, you can opt for another DLC weapon, which has a slightly higher base damage and provides access to the Weed Cutter Weapon Skill instead. This skill is a combo attack with hyper armor that can be extended by holding the button, stopping only when your stamina runs out. However, you should be aware that you will take more damage if hit while wielding Rakshasa’s Great Katana in battle.

Once you’ve finished Count Ymir’s mission, you might want to experiment with something fresh for the expansion instead of a Great Katana. In that case, consider this Light Greatsword as an alternative. This weapon deals substantial damage and scales effectively with Dexterity when enhanced with the Keen Affinity. It performs optimally when paired with the .

Raises Physical Defense by 20%.

In our Talisman Setup, you’ll find some recurring items from the Initial Game Construction. As a reminder, exchanging the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for a suitable elemental defense talisman against specific bosses remains relevant. Rellana’s Cameo works best when combined with either the Great Katana (Overhead Stance) or Milady (Wing Stance), as it enhances damage output. The Axe Talisman, on the other hand, is beneficial when wielding the other two Great Katanas or the Sword of Night.
