Summary
- San Francisco Nintendo Store offers exclusive Switch OLED customization at no additional cost.
- Store also features exclusive merchandise and miniature Nintendo sculptures.
- Customers must reserve a slot in advance due to potential overcrowding at the store opening.
The upcoming San Francisco Nintendo Store will soon open its doors, introducing a customization service for the Nintendo Switch OLED model that was previously exclusive to Japan. This service has been available at Japanese stores such as those in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, along with online customers. Interestingly, it’s not been accessible at the only US-based Nintendo store, Nintendo New York. However, this will change with the opening of the San Francisco store.
Nintendo is expanding its reach beyond just the screens of the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. For instance, the Nintendo Store in San Francisco opened on May 15th. Moreover, Nintendo has collaborated with Universal Studios to establish Nintendo-themed amusement parks, one in Japan and another in the U.S. The company is also enjoying the success of the movie “The Super Mario Bros.”, with plans for a sequel as well as a “Legend of Zelda” film in development.
Fans of Nintendo on the West Coast are getting ready for the debut of the first US Nintendo store outside of New York, and there’s an enticing prospect for those planning to buy the Nintendo Switch OLED. As previously demonstrated in a video by IGN (now unavailable), patrons visiting the store will have the opportunity to personalize the colors of their Nintendo Switch OLED controller, wrist straps, and even the dock. Customers can select their preferred Joy-Con controller hues, with choices between black and white for the OLED Switch dock. Once a choice is made, staff at the Nintendo Store will assemble the components on the spot, allowing customers to take their personalized console home on the same day they place their order. It’s said that there’s no extra charge for customizing a Nintendo Switch OLED model.
Nintendo San Francisco Store Will Have Unique Merch
At the San Francisco Nintendo Store, apart from personalizing your Switch OLED, they’ve hinted at exclusive merchandise that is specific to this particular location. This unique merchandise includes miniature replicas of the large Nintendo statues, such as Link from The Legend of Zelda, Mario himself, and the Inkling Girl from Splatoon, that are scattered throughout the store. However, impromptu fans might be disappointed, as the store will initially only accommodate customers who have previously reserved a spot. This is to prevent potential issues caused by large crowds upon the store’s opening.
As of now, it’s uncertain if any Nintendo stores will provide customization options similar to their newest system upon the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. If you haven’t upgraded to an OLED Switch or don’t intend to wait for the Switch 2, a visit to the San Francisco Nintendo store might be worth considering.
