This post contains spoilers for Frieren.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a truly exceptional anime and is likely to be remembered as one of the greatest. It demonstrates that an anime doesn’t need constant action to be incredibly popular; a compelling story, well-developed characters, and a rich world are the keys to success.
After a fantastic first season, viewers were excited for more of Frieren. Many expected the second season to be just as strong and continue the show’s success. As Season 2 started, it quickly became clear the anime was maintaining its high quality. However, one minor issue bothered fans: the number of episodes.
Frieren Season 2 Only Has 10 Episodes
Shortly before the second season was released, rumors started about it being much shorter than expected. It turned out Frieren’s season 2 would only have 10 episodes – a big drop from the originally anticipated 28. While fans were surprised by this news, they remained confident that Madhouse would still create a fantastic adaptation.
So far, the animation studio Madhouse has done a fantastic job adapting the source material, and fans are really enjoying the new episodes of Frieren. However, there’s a catch: after Season 2 ends, it will be a very long wait before any new Frieren content is released. Viewers will need to be patient, as there won’t be anything fresh for quite a while.
Frieren Manga Is On An Indefinite Hiatus
The Frieren Manga Went On A Break in 2025
- The manga’s break will affect the anime
- The Frieren anime will not return for a long time
People who only watch the anime might not know, but the Frieren manga is currently on hold with no set return date. It stopped releasing new chapters in October 2025, and there haven’t been any announcements about when it will continue. The author, Kanehito Yamada, and the artist, Tsukasa Abe, are both facing health issues, which led to the break.
It’s unfortunately common for manga artists to experience health problems due to the demanding workload and long hours. Each year, we hear about new cases, and both Eiichiro Oda and Yoshihiro Togashi have been struggling with these issues for some time. Togashi’s health has been particularly challenging, ultimately leading to a pause in the publication of his popular series, Hunter x Hunter.

It’s common for creators working on a long-running manga to face health challenges. We hope Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe take the time they need to rest and recover. Because the manga is on hold indefinitely, the anime can’t produce too many episodes without catching up to the source material. Therefore, Madhouse won’t announce a new season of Frieren until the manga returns.
Frieren fans Can Watch Other Anime As They Wait For Season 3
Apothecary Diaries With no confirmed date for Frieren’s return, it’s best for fans to focus on enjoying the upcoming second season. After that, exploring other anime with similar themes could be a good way to fill the time. Here are a few recommendations to check out:
- One Piece
- The Apothecary Diaries
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
- Kingdom
- Cowboy Bebop
- Mushishi
While not exactly the same, these are clearly high-quality offerings. This should give fans something to enjoy while they wait for the next installment of the series.
Frieren Can Finally Win Anime Of The Year
Many viewers were disappointed when the first season of Frieren didn’t win Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year, losing out to Solo Leveling. They felt Frieren was the better show. There’s hope the upcoming season could take home the prize, but fans will have to be patient – it won’t be eligible for awards until 2027.
