This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are not only two of the strongest characters in the Naruto series, but they’ve also become the most recognizable creations of author Masashi Kishimoto. Their impact extends far beyond their own story, inspiring numerous other shows and characters in all kinds of media. This is why fans love them so much and eagerly anticipate their battles whenever they happen.
In Boruto, both Naruto and Sasuke are currently unable to participate in events. Naruto has been sealed away in the dimension of Daikokuten, while Sasuke is trapped inside a Tree due to an injury from a Claw Grime. Fans are hoping to see these two legendary shinobi return to help defend the ninja world, but it looks like it will be a while before they’re able to rejoin the story, so for now, it seems we must say goodbye to them.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha Are Not Coming Back Anytime Soon
Naruto Will Remain Sealed And Sasuke Won’t Be Saved
- The Shinju need to be beaten first
- After the fall of Shinju, Sasuke can be freed
Although fans are eager to see Naruto and Sasuke appear in Boruto again, it likely won’t happen for a while. The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga is just getting started, and the current villains haven’t been defeated yet. Because the return of Naruto and Sasuke is connected to resolving the conflict with these villains, they can’t come back until that happens.
The soul of a Shinobi will always stay the same. — Sasuke Uchiha to Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto Uzumaki is currently sealed away by Kawaki, and his fight with Boruto suggests he remains that way. This means we likely won’t see Naruto return until the major showdown between Kawaki and Boruto. As for Sasuke Uchiha, he’s expected to reappear after Hidari is defeated, which seems more likely to happen soon, especially since it looks like the Shinju will be defeated shortly.
Even after all of that, Sasuke won’t likely return for at least a year. Currently, the story is focused on Mamushi of the Shinju, and his storyline will probably take 5 to 10 chapters to finish in Boruto. After that, the focus will likely shift to Hidari and Jura, and while Hidari might be defeated during that arc, it will also take around 5-10 chapters. Therefore, Sasuke won’t be back before 2026.

It Will Be Years Before Naruto And Sasuke Are Back
Fans Will Need To Get Used To It
Fans need to accept that Naruto and Sasuke won’t be back for quite a while – not this year, and likely not next year either. While Sasuke might return around 2027, Naruto’s return could take even longer, as the story needs to finish the fight between Kawaki and Boruto first.
Boruto began as a continuation of the popular Naruto series, and it’s been challenging to establish its own identity because of Naruto’s huge success. Now, Boruto is really coming into his own as a main character. Whether he’ll reach the same heroic heights as his father, or even exceed them, remains to be seen. Honestly, even I don’t know what the future holds! It all depends on the continued support of our fans, so please keep rooting for us. —Ikemoto
The next chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, chapter 28, will be released on November 20, 2025, at 10 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM Coordinated Universal Time. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
