Say Hello To Naruto’s Next Kekkei Genkai In Boruto

Naruto Uzumaki started as a remarkably weak ninja, but through hard work and determination, he became arguably the strongest shinobi ever. He gained significant power boosts along the way, most notably by fully connecting with Kurama and mastering Six Paths Sage Mode. While Naruto’s strength comes from his incredible willpower and the power of the Tailed Beasts within him, it’s also important to consider his unique inherited abilities.

Many fans don’t realize that towards the end of the Naruto series, Naruto Uzumaki gained three different Kekkei Genkai abilities. But in the Boruto series, he has the potential to gain another one: Wood Release. This ability was previously unique to Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage and a past reincarnation of Asura, making Naruto even more powerful.

Naruto Uzumaki Could Gain Wood Release As His Next Kekkei Genkai

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki was able to use three unique abilities, known as Kekkei Genkai, thanks to the power of his Tailed Beasts. He gained Lava Release from Son Goku, Boil Release from Kokuo, and Magnet Release from Shukaku. Naruto used these powers a lot while fighting Kaguya and Madara, but many fans didn’t even notice he had access to three different Kekkei Genkai.

Besides the Six Paths technique, the Rinnegan has a powerful, more advanced ability called the Outer Path. The Rinnegan allows its user to control life and death. Konan tells Naruto that Nagato is sacrificing himself because he believes in him.

Even though possessing those three abilities is impressive, Naruto might gain another unique power in Boruto, particularly since he seems to have lost the ones he previously had. The way Naruto could develop Wood Release is actually quite straightforward. We already know he masters all five basic elemental natures. This means he can control both Water and Earth Release, which are the two elements needed to create Wood Release.

Naruto’s Hashirama Cells Grant Him A Special Power

Normally, Naruto wouldn’t be able to use Wood Release because it’s a special inherited ability he doesn’t have. However, observant fans will recall that he received an arm made of Hashirama’s cells near the end of the series. This means Hashirama’s DNA – and the ability that makes Wood Release possible – is now part of Naruto’s system.

This power is incredible – it should be far stronger than anything he possesses. However, it comes with a serious cost: it shortens our lifespans. Because our chakra is linked, any power drawn from our life force also diminishes his. That’s the essence of Baryon Mode. — Kurama to Naruto Uzumaki

Because Naruto has the ability to use both Earth and Water Release, and he contains cells from Hashirama, he should be naturally skilled at using Wood Release. He likely hasn’t used it much because his powers from the Tailed Beasts are even stronger. However, if he didn’t have those other powers, Wood Release would be a very valuable skill for him in battle.

Naruto Would Become A Monster With Wood Release Mastery

Now that Naruto has lost Kurama, his powers are limited. But when he returns, he’ll need to be incredibly strong to face the powerful enemies in Boruto. One way he could do that is by mastering Wood Release. Plus, considering Naruto is already highly skilled in Sage Mode, combining that with Wood Release could make him even more powerful.

Hashirama was incredibly powerful when using Sage Mode and Wood Release, and Naruto has the potential to become just as strong, or even surpass him, thanks to his extensive experience.

Naturally, Naruto needs to come back before any of that can happen. But his return is certain, and when he does, he’ll become even stronger.
