As a huge Pokémon fan, I’m so excited about Pokémon Champions! Finally, we’re getting all these new Mega Evolutions in a classic battle format. It’s awesome because these Megas first showed up in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but that game was different – no Abilities, and battles happened in real-time instead of turn-based. Now, in Pokémon Champions, these Pokémon can really compete with the other Megas, and honestly, one of them is already proving to be way stronger than the rest!
Mega Evolutions haven’t been commonly used in competitive Pokemon battles since the games released in 2016. The feature was removed in a later generation and only recently returned with Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Now, with Pokemon Champions bringing Mega Evolution back to the competitive scene and introducing new Pokemon that can Mega Evolve, players will need to remember which Mega Evolutions were the strongest in the past and see how the new ones compare. Among the new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Champions, Mega Froslass is proving to be exceptionally powerful and one of the best in the entire series.

Before Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Froslass wasn’t a strong choice in competitive Pokemon battles – other Ghost and Ice types were simply better. But gaining a Mega Evolution changed that, giving Froslass the potential to become a powerful competitor thanks to its boosted stats. Its success depended on which Ability it received with the launch of Pokemon Champions, and now that the game is released, Mega Froslass’s Snow Warning Ability has made it one of the best Pokemon in the game.
Mega Froslass’s Snow Warning Ability Makes it an Incredibly Valuable Weather Setter
- Snow Warning — The Pokémon makes it snow when it enters a battle.
In competitive Pokemon battles, teams that control the weather are highly effective, and Snow has become a powerful choice since it was introduced in Generation 9. When Snow is active, Ice-type Pokemon become much more durable, gaining a 50% boost to their Defense. Additionally, the move Blizzard, which usually has a 70% chance of hitting, becomes guaranteed to connect. Setting up Snow as a Pokemon Mega Evolves, like with Mega Froslass, not only makes it tougher but also ensures its most powerful Ice-type attack always lands.
The Best Moves for Mega Froslass in Pokemon Champions
- Aurora Veil
- Blizzard
- Shadow Ball
- Icy Wind
Mega Froslass really needs Snow conditions to be effective, so Blizzard is essential as its main Ice-type attack. For Ghost-type attacks, Shadow Ball is the best choice. When Snow is active, Aurora Veil is incredibly useful, cutting incoming damage by half in single battles and by a third for both Pokemon in double battles. Icy Wind is also a good option because it slows down the opponent, letting Mega Froslass – which is already very fast – take control.
Although the move Protect was weakened in Pokemon Champions, it’s still a useful choice for Mega Froslass.

The Best Partners for Mega Froslass in Pokemon Champions
- Archaludon
- Kingambit
- Hisuian Arcanine
- Incineroar
Mega Froslass can be effective in single battles in Pokemon Champions, but it really shines in the double-battle format used in official Pokemon VGC competitions. When building a double-battle team with Mega Froslass, certain partners work especially well, either complementing its strengths or covering its weaknesses. Pairing it with a strong Steel-type Pokemon like Archaludon or Kingambit is a smart move, as they can take advantage of Aurora Veil to lessen damage and improve their Special Defense.
Good partners for Mega Froslass include powerful Fire-type Pokémon like Hisuian Arcanine and Incineroar. Both can withstand attacks from other Fire-types, such as Mega Charizard Y, and help protect Mega Froslass. Hisuian Arcanine’s Rock-type attacks are particularly effective against Mega Charizard Y, while Incineroar’s Dark-type attacks can easily handle Ghost-type Pokémon that pose a threat to Mega Froslass.
