Everyone loves a great action RPG! While turn-based games have a rich history, real-time combat is much more popular in today’s big-budget titles. Action RPGs come in all sorts of flavors, from classic hack-and-slash games like Diablo to narrative-focused shooters like Cyberpunk 2077, Japanese RPGs like FF7 Rebirth, and challenging Soulslike adventures like Elden Ring. There’s usually something for everyone, no matter your preference. And let’s not forget the indie developers who are keeping the tradition of isometric and top-down RPGs alive!
With 2025 winding down, there’s still a lot on the horizon for gamers, no matter what they play on. And 2026 is already gearing up for a fast start, with major game releases expected to begin in just a few weeks. February and March look especially exciting! With so many new games coming out daily, it’s easy to overlook some promising titles. So, let’s take a look at a few upcoming action RPGs launching in the next few months.
Here are a few notes and criteria:
- Only games with confirmed release dates will be included, and we are targeting projects set to launch between December 2025 and February 2026.
- No ports, although we will include an honorable mentions section at the end that covers these games.
- Each game’s trailer is included as a reference.
Cloudheim (PC Early Access)
A Gorgeous Co-Op Adventure Makes Its Way To Steam And Epic Games Store
Though it’s a smaller release, the upcoming game Cloudheim from Noodle Cat is already looking fantastic based on the gameplay footage shown so far.
Cloudheim is an action-adventure game for 1 to 4 players, and it’s also categorized as an Action RPG on Steam. We’re including it in our recommendations because it’s a lesser-known title. It’s currently available in early access on PC, with plans to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox later on.
Following the cataclysm of Ragnarok, the world of Cloudheim is beautiful but broken. You’ll journey through this land with your companions, exploring dungeons and encountering both fearsome monsters and charming creatures. While designed for cooperative play, Cloudheim can also be fully enjoyed as a solo adventure. Crafting is key – you’ll create weapons and gear to unlock new combat skills. Battles are fast-paced and physics-based, offering diverse strategies depending on your chosen weapons and playstyle. You can even run your own shop to earn money and build your reputation.
Code Vein 2
A Bloody Anime Soulslike RPG With Intense Combat
I’ve always seen Soulslikes as just a type of action RPG with some specific things that make them stand out. For a while, Code Vein was really popular because people called it the “anime Soulslike,” but honestly, with games like AI Limit coming out, that doesn’t feel quite as unique anymore. Even though it wasn’t perfect, Code Vein was a pretty good first attempt by Bandai Namco. I really liked that it focused more on story and characters than a lot of other games in the genre. It built a really solid base, and I’m hoping the sequel takes what worked and improves on the sometimes clunky combat and level design. I’m excited to see what they do with it!
The story of the game will revolve around time travel, and you’ll team up with various allies to battle corrupted creatures called Revenants. Like the first game, you’ll be able to drain blood, but the combat appears much more dynamic and visually impressive. Players can also customize their weapons and abilities, offering diverse character builds and multiple strategies for tackling each fight.
Deus Ex Remastered
The Return Of The Definitive Immersive Action RPG
It’s no overstatement to say that Deus Ex is among the most important and highly regarded games ever made. The original game perfectly embodies the immersive sim style, letting players solve problems and approach challenges using their own creativity and methods.
The Deus Ex series hasn’t had a new game since 2016’s Mankind Divided, but it’s making a comeback with a remastered version of the original. While remasters aren’t always thrilling, and a full remake might be preferable, this release is worthwhile if it introduces a new audience to this classic game. Aspyr, who have successfully remastered games like Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider, is handling the project.
Nioh 3
The Biggest Action RPG Of 2026 (So Far)
It’s true, there are a lot of games like Dark Souls coming out these days, and you can’t avoid that challenging, ‘bonfire’ style of gameplay. But Nioh has always been different, offering incredibly fast combat, deep mechanics, tons of loot, and a huge number of boss fights. Nioh 2 was one of the best action RPGs of the 2010s, and the new game has the potential to be just as great this decade.
Nioh 3 introduces some changes from the earlier games, most notably larger, more open levels instead of the traditional linear missions. While I preferred the straightforwardness of the older levels, these new areas could allow for more detailed environments and greater freedom to explore. The combat system now offers two distinct approaches: one similar to past games, and another focused on keeping your distance with ranged attacks and dodging. If it’s anything like Nioh 2, expect a deeply complex system with tons of interconnected abilities.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties
The Dragon Is Back
I’ve been a fan of the Yakuza series for a while, and it’s cool to see how people view them now. For years, they were seen as almost RPGs, but I think Yakuza: Like a Dragon really cemented them as full-on role-playing games. Honestly, the older titles always had RPG elements – leveling up, random fights, tons of side stuff, exploring the world, and customizing your character – they just focused on incredible beat ’em up combat instead of turn-based battles. I’m really excited for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties because I don’t expect it to be any different. And if it’s anything like the other remakes, it’s going to be a contender for game of the year!
While Yakuza 3 has been remastered, making it more accessible than the earlier games, it’s known for being lengthy and starting slowly. The fighting mechanics haven’t aged well, but the Kiwami version aims to address this. In addition to gameplay and side activity improvements, Dark Ties offers a separate story focused on Yoshitaka Mine that can be played independently of the main game.
