Schedule 1 Beta Update

Even if you believe yourself to be quite humorous, reality often manages to outdo even the most skilled comedians – at least, that seems to be the impression given by the turmoil surrounding Steam’s newest phenomenon.

The popular independent game titled “Schedule I” was released on March 24th. Recently, there’s been talk about another early access update taking the game to version 0.3.4. However, the main focus of discussion has shifted towards a copyright infringement investigation that started over the weekend.

Schedule I v0.3.4 Open Beta Update

Today, the update for the Schedule I feature has been released on the open beta version of the game. Players can access this by choosing the beta option within the game’s settings in their Steam properties window.

While this isn’t the initial Schedule I update, it stands out as the most extensive one. It encompasses the majority, albeit not every single one, of the features and items found in the complete Schedule I launch, as confirmed by its developer Tyler.

New Areas and Items

  • Bleuballs Boutique interior and functionality
  • Pawn Shop interior and functionality, where you can sell everything except for product
  • Wooden and metal signs
  • Wall-mounted shelf
  • Safe
  • Antique and modern wall lamps

  • Gold bar

Tweaks and Fixes

  • Customer recommendation dialogue now plays out smoother and with better sentence structure
  • Additional null and validity checks added
  • Delivery destination no longer overflows from phone screen
  • Player lists now clear properly when leaving the game to the main menu
  • Non-host clients now properly receive day and week passes where applicable

Copyright Infringement Investigation

It’s alleged that the widely played game, which involves the illegal sale of controlled substances, is being scrutinized for potentially using the intellectual property of another game, as stated by Movie Games S.A.

As reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP), there has been a legal examination initiated concerning potential resemblances between Schedule I and Drug Dealer Simulator 2, according to Movie Games. The points of contention involve the storyline, gameplay mechanics, and user interface design in these two games.

Movie Games is currently consulting with lawyers in Australia, as Schedule I developer TVGS is located there, though no legal action has been initiated yet.

In the court of popular sentiment, a majority seem to align with Schedule I, taking extreme measures such as leaving negative reviews en masse on Steam’s Drug Dealer Simulator pages to voice their disapproval of the decision.

In simpler terms, SNIPEEEY argues that the components in the Drug Dealer Simulator series aren’t particularly unique, and Schedule I is merely another game following a well-established formula. However, he believes it outperforms its predecessors in terms of gameplay, visuals, and respect for players’ time.

It’s often unclear where the line between inspiration and copyright infringement lies, especially when comparing Pokémon and Palworld, but these debates certainly make for entertaining news articles.
