As a long-time fan of the Scream franchise, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness and excitement at the same time when I hear that Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette, might return to the series in some capacity for Scream 7. While it’s heartbreaking to think about how Dewey met his untimely end in the last movie, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope that perhaps he could make a ghostly appearance and add an emotional and humorous touch to the franchise.

In each Scream film, it’s delightful to have Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) return. However, it might not be feasible for them to appear in every installment. While Campbell is set to rejoin the cast for Scream 7, there’s no definite answer regarding Cox’s involvement. Regarding Arquette, he was absent from Scream 6 following Dewey’s heartbreaking conclusion. As of now, it’s uncertain which other legacy characters will make an appearance in Scream 7 or if any besides Sidney will.

Their seemingly blissful life together is disrupted, however, when Ghostface makes a comeback.

In the latest Scream film from 2022, contrary to expectations, Dewey didn’t meet his end at the originally planned location. Instead, he was slain at the hospital where Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) was receiving treatment. Fans are elated that their beloved character managed to survive, but it’s still disheartening to acknowledge this significant loss. One could debate the merits of Dewey’s untimely demise. While it’s a pity to lose such a crucial character, who typically anchors the storyline, it also added an element of terror by introducing uncertainty and risk.

Despite if Dewey will reappear in the “Scream” series again, his kind-hearted character and long-standing commitment to safeguarding Sidney Prescott and the community of Woodsboro have made him a cherished figure among fans.
