In the upcoming movie “Scream 7”, several characters from the initial film are slated to make a comeback. A fan has proposed an intelligent way for one of them to reappear.
In the world of horror films, “Scream” stands as one of the most successful slasher franchises, boasting several movies already released and another seventh installment planned. Unfortunately, two significant stars from the previous movie, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, will not be returning. However, this void has been filled by the comeback of some original “Scream” cast members, such as Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley. The return of Lillard and Foley, though, has sparked curiosity among fans since their characters were previously declared dead. Yet, some speculate that Lillard’s character, Stu, may not have met his end after all. As a result, one enthusiast came up with a theory on how to bring his character back in a logical manner for “Scream 7”.
Fans of the “Scream” series discussed their theories about the upcoming movie on Reddit. One user named ComfortableHall8887 proposed a theory suggesting that Stu, played by David Arquette, might still be alive. This twist could be possible without disrupting the overall narrative. According to this Reddit user, Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton), who was in the same senior year as Stu and Billy (Skeet Ulrich), had a role opposite Sidney (Neve Campbell) in “Peter Pan,” where Judy played the lost boy and Sidney portrayed Tiger Lily. The user speculated that Judy might have harbored resentment towards Sidney after this experience. In “Scream 1,” Judy was infatuated with Stu, and when Stu and Billy attacked Sidney, she witnessed the incident. Later, in “Scream 2,” Judy and Mickey (Timothy Olyphant), the secondary antagonist, rescued a wounded Stu and together killed another victim. They then crushed a TV on top of Stu to make it appear as if he was one of the victims. When Sidney reported this incident to the police, they only found two bodies with one under the TV, leaving the identities of the deceased unclear.
In simpler terms, Judy hid the fact that she was taking care of Stu’s survival. To stay informed about Sidney, they both decided that Judy would become a police officer. This allowed her to keep their secret while also keeping them off the radar regarding Stu. In Scream 3, she teamed up with Roman Bridger (Scott Foley) to locate Sidney. In Scream 4, Judy continued to provide Stu with updates about Sidney. By Scream 5, Judy had become a Sheriff. However, both Judy and her son Wes were victims of Ghostface fans in the crazed Ghostface killings. This left Stu without his ally who provided him with information about Sidney. In Scream 6, he learns that Richie’s family was dressing up as Ghostface and becomes enraged because Judy and Wes were among the victims. Stu is experiencing hallucinations now, and he blames Sidney for ruining his life, disfiguring him, and keeping him hidden.
The fan theory proposes a bond among Judy, Mickey, and Stu. Although the earlier films don’t offer tangible proof of their connection, there are numerous unexplored aspects in the movies that might shed light on how Stu managed to survive following the original film’s events. Fan theories can be imaginative but should be approached with caution. It has been verified that Stu will return to the series, but the specifics of his reintroduction in Scream 7 remain uncertain, preserving an air of mystery. Nevertheless, Lillard will once again embody the character of Stu. An insider speculated that the production might employ artificial intelligence (AI) to resurrect the original killers – Stu and Roman. However, the use of AI keeps open the possibility that Stu, portrayed by Lillard, may still be alive. Consequently, fans must wait for Scream 7 to ascertain whether AI will revive him or if his survival doesn’t require such technology. This approach maintains the suspenseful atmosphere.
Scream 7 will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
