As a long-time fan of the Scream franchise, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia as Neve Campbell returns to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7. It’s been a wild ride since the first scream echoed through the phone line back in 1996, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

In “Scream 7”, the main character from the last two movies, Sam Carpenter, steps aside to allow the original Scream heroine, Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, to return to the forefront following Melissa Barrera’s dismissal. While Sidney is now back in the spotlight, some of Sam’s tough characteristics might be adopted by Sidney in “Scream 7”. Both actresses shared the screen in “Scream (2022)”, which was intended to symbolize a handover, but the horror series has since decided to refocus on Sidney.

In the movies Scream (2022) and Scream 6, Sam demonstrated an extreme level of brutality in her kills, outdoing even the cruelty associated with the Ghostface killers. While Sidney Prescott has had her share of encounters with these killers, she hasn’t been as ruthless as Sam. With Scream 7 on the horizon, there’s a chance for Sidney to emulate Sam’s lethal methods when confronting future Ghostface killers.

Sidney Is An Efficient Killer But She Never Went For Brutal Overkill Like Sam Did

Scream 7: Sidney Prescott Should Be More Like Sam Carpenter In One Particular Way

Sidney Prescott initially had no intention of causing harm to anyone, but circumstances forced her hand as multiple Ghostface killers relentlessly pursued her. In the movie Scream, she portrayed a peaceful demeanor, yet demonstrated remarkable strength when confronted with the grave danger posed by her boyfriend, Billy Loomis, and his unhinged partner, Stu Macher.

As a gamer, I’ve always known that Sidney’s Ghostface wasn’t just about harmless scares – her kills were brutal. But it wasn’t until someone pushed her buttons that the dark, violent side within her truly emerged. In the original Scream from 1996, when Billy came back for more terror, I had to take him down hard. I’d already dealt with Stu by ending his life in a gruesome manner – dropping an old-school TV on his head.

In “Scream 2,” Sidney and Gale ended up fatally shooting Mickey Altieri with numerous bullets as their best course of action following Mrs. Loomis’ earlier shooting. Later, Sidney shot Billy’s mother in the head, even though she had already been killed by Cotton Weary. This was done to prevent her from returning for a shocking climax, unlike her son who came back, and it was more about stopping her rather than excessive violence.

In the movie “Scream 3”, Roman Bridger, disguised as Ghostface, was stabbed once in the heart by Sidney. However, due to his bullet-proof vest, the impact wasn’t fatal. Instead, it was Dewey who ended up shooting him in the head. Interestingly, despite being his sister, Sidney showed some compassion towards Roman as she held his hand while he seemed to be dying. In contrast, one of Sidney’s most ruthless kills occurred in “Scream 4”, where she electrocuted her cousin Jill with a defibrillator and then fatally shot her.

In stark contrast to Sidney, Sam Carpenter harbored a dark side within her even before the Ghostface attacks began. Given that she is the daughter of a serial killer, it’s no surprise that her actions echoed those of her father. Sam mercilessly attacked Richie Kirsch a total of 25 times, striking through his cheek and slitting his throat in an extreme display of violence. This was far more brutal than any act Sidney committed while donning the Ghostface mask. In the sixth installment of the Scream series, Sam’s brutality intensified significantly when she viciously stabbed Richie’s father, Detective Wayne Bailey, no less than 32 times.

Sidney Could Take Pointers From Sam Carpenter In Terms Of Dispatching Ghostface In Scream 7

The initial concept for “Scream 7” apparently intended to further deepen Sam Carpenter’s darkness, potentially even transforming her into Ghostface. While her killings were portrayed as justified since she was eliminating Ghostface killers, it’s debatable that Sam represents the most ruthless killer in the Scream series and is the final girl.

In the seventh Scream movie, there’s a possibility that it might continue with intense violence towards the final girl, in this case Sidney Prescott, even without Sam. If the plot revolves around Sidney, she may find herself pushed to the limit as she has faced off against nine different Ghostface killers throughout five films. However, she’s never truly fought alone since she always had Gale, Dewey, and others by her side. But in Scream 7, we might see a change where Sidney is secluded, forcing her to confront the Ghostface killer on her own. This could lead to an escalation in the level of violence.

It seems incredible that Sidney hasn’t succumbed to mental breakdown given her past ordeals, but the upcoming Scream 7 might reveal her trauma pushing her towards Sam’s assertive tactics. In contrast to her early days, Sidney has evolved into a different kind of final girl, as she now has children to safeguard. The remake of Scream (2022) subtly showed Sidney’s growing intolerance for killers, as she stormed through Stu’s house, firing shots indiscriminately before posing any questions.

If Ghostface targets Sidney’s family, it might lead to a level of retaliation similar to what we saw from Sam Carpenter. Given the circumstances, Sidney would likely respond with extreme measures to safeguard Mark and their children in Scream 7. This could result in an even more intense and psychotic portrayal of Sidney Prescott that fans will surely appreciate.
