The actors from the movie Scream are taken aback by their children’s responses following a viewing of the film. One of the actors admitted that watching it with their child did not elicit an unexpected reaction from them.

I can’t help but express my admiration for the enduring success of “Scream,” a cinematic masterpiece in the slasher genre. This chilling tale revolves around the enigmatic Ghostface killer, who employs telephone calls to taunt victims and instill dread before executing their grisly demise. The original film, released in 1996, was a breakthrough hit, its success undeniable as it paved the way for several sequels. As I write this, preparations are underway for “Scream 7,” with one of the original stars sharing their child’s thrilling response to watching the movie.

At the 90s Con, David Arquette reunited with his Scream co-stars Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard, Dermot Mulroney, and Skeet Ulrich. They were asked if their children had seen the horror movie. Arquette, who was once married to Courteney Cox, a fellow Scream cast member, and shares a daughter named Coco with her, shared an account of trying to watch Scream with Coco during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Coco found it strange,” Arquette revealed. However, when the 2022 Scream film was released, things seemed to change for Coco. Arquette stated that she attended the premiere and had a different reaction this time.

At one of the showings, she witnessed the enthusiastic audience reactions and simply couldn’t help but be endearing. She exclaimed, “Oh, how touching! They adore you.

In the Scream series, Dewey Riley, portrayed by Arquette, had a fluctuating relationship with Gale Weather, played by Cox, who transitioned from a reporter to an author. They got married in Scream 3 (2000) and cohabited in Scream 4 (2011), but in the latest Scream (2022), their on-screen union had ended – mirroring Arquette and Cox’s off-screen relationship. Despite their romantic troubles, they maintained a friendly bond and continued to work together professionally. Drew Barrymore reprised her role as Casey Becker in the series, a character who was brutally killed in the first movie within the first 10 minutes. Interestingly, Barrymore’s real-life daughters, Frankie and Olive, were captivated by their mother’s performance. They reportedly watched the film during a sleepover with friends and praised her acting skills, with Olive expressing intentions to portray Casey for her Halloween costume when she has a boyfriend, with her partner playing Steve.

It’s not surprising that Coco initially found the movie “weird” when she first watched it, as her parents were on screen, making a film about romance and horror. Watching them in such a context must have been uncomfortable, especially since she was there too. However, two years later, Coco’s reaction to the fans’ love for her parents was heartwarming. It’s only natural that Arquette and Cox felt proud and honored by their daughter’s approval of the project they had worked on for decades. In fact, it’s a wonderful moment for any parent when their children appreciate their work. Given the popularity of Scream, it likely made them seem cool to their kids. When parents see their children admiring their work, they feel exalted. It’s reasonable to assume that Arquette, Cox, and Barrymore must have felt this way at some point, considering their children’s responses to their roles in Scream.

Scream 7 will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
