Scream’s Matthew Lillard May Join Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Reboot in Secret Role

Summary

  • Matthew Lillard is in talks to join Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ TV series, adding to the exciting developments.
  • Flanagan’s adaptation will focus on Carrie White’s telekinetic powers and abuse from both school and home.
  • Lillard’s impressive acting background will make him a great addition to Flanagan’s ‘Carrie,’ set to stream on Prime Video.

The reboot of Mike Flanagan’s version of “Carrie” receives another thrilling development, as a well-known actor from the “Scream” series appears set to join the cast for an unspecified role in this upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s horror tale. Rather than being released as a film, Flanagan’s terrifying story will instead be transformed into an Amazon television series. Summer H. Howell has been cast as Carrie, the timid teenager who endures relentless bullying at her school, and Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, Carrie’s most trusted friend.

The TV adaptation of Flanagan’s “Carrie” will recount the tale of Carrie White, a tormented high school student who finds she possesses telekinetic abilities. However, it isn’t only at school where Carrie endures cruel treatment; her mother, Margaret White, portrayed in the 1976 film by Piper Laurie, inflicts severe abuse on her due to her deeply religious beliefs and domineering personality. The 1974 film, starring Sissy Spacek as Carrie and directed by Brian De Palma, garnered critical acclaim for its exceptional performances and the memorable pig’s blood prom scene, with many hailing it as one of Stephen King’s best adaptations. However, a different “Carrie” remake was produced in 2013, featuring Chloë Grace Moretz in the lead role and Julianne Moore as the mother. Unfortunately, this adaptation fell short of the original film’s success, receiving a mediocre rating of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Scream Star Matthew Lillard in Talks To Join Mike Flanagan’s Carrie

Exciting news for fellow horror enthusiasts! According to Deadline, it seems that Matthew Lillard, best known for his chilling role as Stu Macher in the original Scream movie, is reportedly in discussions with Amazon to appear in the Carrie TV show. For those who’ve played Five Nights at Freddy’s, you might also remember him from Blumhouse’s film adaptation of this popular survival horror game. Here’s hoping we get to see Lillard bring more thrills to our screens!

Apart from “Carrie,” Stephen King’s work that Lillard is starring in also includes “The Life of Chuck.” This film, directed by Mike Flanagan, is slated for release this summer by NEON. Unlike a typical horror movie, “The Life of Chuck” delves into the supernatural and sci-fi genres, focusing on themes such as life, death, and the interconnectedness of people.

Although Damon Lindelof’s Carrie TV series has only discussed bringing Lillard on board at this point, his exceptional acting background suggests he would be a valuable asset to Flanagan’s adaptation. Lillard was actually considered for the Negan role in AMC’s The Walking Dead, trying out alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan; however, it was Morgan who ultimately secured the famous character. In addition, Lillard is set to reprise his role as Stu Macher in Scream 7 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, with the latter slated for release later this year.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t wait for “Carrie” to hit the screens, and when it does, you’ll find me streaming it exclusively on Prime Video.
