A brand-new website, teaser trailer and visual have been revealed for a new project coming from the studio behind The Apothecary Diaries, Studio OLM. Scum of the Brave, the anime adaptation of a fantasy light novel by Rocket Shoukai, illustrated by Yuya Kusaka, will be getting an anime adaptation.

No further information regarding the upcoming TV series’ staff or cast has been revealed as yet; however, it has been reported that the series will air on NipponTV when it eventually broadcasts in Japan.

What Is Scum of the Brave?

An Award-Winning Fantasy Light Novel

Scum of the Brave is a fantasy shōnen set in an alternate 21st century in which rich members of the mafia can become “Demon Lords” through “ether-enhancement surgery”, and “Braves” are the bounty hunters who take them down. Yashiro wants to live a normal life with simple pleasures, but when he’s offered a handsome sum to become the tutor to three Braves, it’s an offer he can’t pass up, but also one that is sure to over-complicate his life. Does he know what he’s getting himself into? The original light novel was written by Rocket Shokai and illustrated by Yūya Kusaka and originally serialized as a web novel that was published on Kadokawa Corporation’s Kakuyomu website from February to March 2016. Its chapters were collected into a single volume. It came with illustrations by Yūya Kusaka and was published under Fujimi Shobo’s Kadokawa Books light novel imprint on Christmas Eve 2016.

The light novel was adapted into a manga by Nakashima723, which began as an independent comic released in 2018 before being serialized on Leed Publishing’s Comic Border website in February 2022. The English version of the Scum of the Brave manga is published by Manga Planet. The Scum of the Brave manga was collected into six volumes as of May 2024. The light novel won the Grand Prize in the Modern Action category at the 1st Kakuyomu Web Novel Contest in 2016. The anime will be produced by OLM (Odd Taxi, The Apothecary Diaries). The teaser trailer and a poster of the key visual will be exhibited at the Nippon TV and Kadokawa booths at AnimeJapan being held on Saturday, March 2022. The series is also running a follow and repost campaign on X to celebrate the anime adaptation. One follower will win a set of volumes 1 to 7 of the original manga, and 10 people will win a B2 poster of the TV anime’s teaser visual. Unfortunately, the campaign is restricted to operation only within Japan.

The adaptation of “Scum of the Earth” anime has yet to announce its airing date, as well as any details about its production team and cast members.
