The game, Sea of Stars, draws many elements and characteristics from the classic JRPG, Chrono Trigger, which is fitting given how influential it is in shaping contemporary JRPGs. Since it’s not uncommon for indie JRPGs to take cues from the best SNES-era JRPGs like Chrono Trigger when designing their games.
One inspiration is evident in the combat system, where team members can join forces to execute duo or trio combos, which seems to pay homage to the Double and Triple Techs from Chrono Trigger.
Due to the alteration in character classes brought about by Throes of the Watchmaker and the arrival of a fresh party member, our prior understanding of combos has been discarded and replaced with the requirement to learn anew.
In this tutorial, I’ll help you locate every combo in Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker. This way, you can easily master these moves and vanquish the malevolent twins from the Solstice Warriors more efficiently.
All Combo Scroll Locations in Throes of the Watchmaker
In total, we’ve got seven different groupings (or combinations) among our party members. Each character has five individual assignments, while there are two groups of three, leaving a few more that have been allocated to two particular party members.
In Throes of the Watchmaker, four abilities are acquired through character progression (leveling up), while they call this process Renown. On the other hand, the remaining three skill combinations, which include one particularly effective set, can only be learned by discovering a Combo Scroll in specific maps.
Here’s a table with the combo scrolls that can be found and the effect of each skill:

Rail Forest
After our formal tour of Horloge Town, Rail Forest is the location you’ll venture into next, where we seek Fardush’s train. Upon entering the forest, continue your journey until you arrive at a spot requiring you to engage a switch or plug on the ground to control bridges.
Before attempting the puzzles, take a brief stroll south to discover a combination scroll hidden in a nook or small recess. After descending some ledges, you’ll find yourself with the Heap Frog. To be honest, you’d overlook this combination scroll if you were playing without any visual guidance.
Jugglecore
Ivory Towers
In Ivory Towers, you’ll acquire the Mule Drone – a fresh device designed to aid you with an innovative kind of puzzle mechanism in Throes of the Watchmaker. Shortly after, you’ll encounter a puzzle where you’ll need to piece together a colossal portrait of King Narcis.
Once you solve this puzzle, make your way up a pair of staircases, and then gather some platform blocks using the Mule Drone when you arrive at the designated spot. This will allow you to proceed safely through the dungeon.
Pay close attention, and you’ll find a combination scroll located north-east from where we currently are. To uncover it, first move the block nearest to the entrance door using the Mule Drone. This action will clear the path, exposing some vines hidden beneath.
Descend the vines and maneuver yourself towards the neighboring platform where the Combination Scroll lies. Then, ascend to obtain Jugglecore, a combo that I find rather lackluster in terms of power but quite effective at unlocking locks.
Galette des Rois
Wolf Rock
In case you somehow overlooked it while navigating Wolf Rock, the combination scroll stands out quite prominently throughout your journey. If by chance you didn’t spot it yet and are having trouble earning that trophy or achievement, here’s a gentle reminder of its location.
At some stage in Wolf Rock, you’ll encounter a challenge requiring you to unfasten a rocky platform, which will reveal an underwater route for you to continue swimming along, leading you to additional underwater areas.
As I journeyed on, I found myself standing near a rushing waterfall. With a leap of faith, I stepped off the edge and let the powerful current sweep me away. After navigating through the frothy white waters, I had to scramble up several jagged rock faces. Finally, at the top, I discovered another underwater entrance and the elusive combo scroll for Galette des Rois – a duo that reigns supreme in Throes of the Watchmaker!
