Final Destination: Bloodlines marks the return of this series after more than 10 years, but instead of starting anew, it is established as the sixth installment in the saga. To keep audiences guessing, it introduces fresh elements to maintain a sense of unpredictability throughout the film.
As a cinephile, I must admit that “Final Destination: Bloodlines” is not just another predictable chain of events within this franchise, but rather an intricate web of chaos that surpasses the usual curses befalling the main characters. Following a heartrending demise, it seems as though Death’s masterful plan has resumed its relentless course once more. Keeping a keen eye out for the series’ callbacks and references, “Final Destination: Bloodlines” certainly doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
Spoilers Ahead for Final Destination Bloodlines
7. The Finger Prick
Blood Will Tell

Just prior to calamity unfolding in the Final Destination series, the principal character often sustains a self-inflicted finger injury, such as Alex’s cut on a plane seat in the initial movie. This recurring event serves as a symbol, indicating that they are trapped in some kind of time loop.
In the movie “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” Iris accidentally pricks herself with a rose earlier in time, and Stefani experiences the same later on. This turn of events is advantageous for Iris, but unfortunately, Stefani meets an untimely end soon after.
6. Erik’s Almost Accident
Never Back Into Traffic

After Stefani realizes her family is in peril and Erik is the next target, the movie Final Destination Bloodlines skillfully twists fan anticipations. In a gruesome turn of events, Erik almost meets his end at his tattoo studio after being mercilessly attacked and then engulfed in flames. Miraculously, firefighters arrive on scene just in time, allowing Erik to survive and carry on living.
In the same scene, Erik narrowly escapes death by reversing into a busy street, coming close to being struck by a car. This incident mirrors Terry’s fate in the initial movie, who met his end by backing into traffic and was indeed hit by a vehicle. However, it is important to note that Erik does not die here, as his eventual demise is depicted in a much more gruesome manner.
5. Iris’ Book
She Loves Sketching Tragedies

Eventually, Stefani manages to locate her grandmother, Iris, in a cabin reminiscent of “The Walking Dead.” As a token of affection, Iris presents Stefani with a notebook containing information about individuals who perished due to a curse, as well as strategies to escape Death’s plan. The notebook also contains some drawings that reference past calamities depicted in the movies.
In the first film, we see a plane that might have significance for an upcoming event in Final Destination: Bloodlines or simply refer to the third movie’s ending. Additionally, there’s a logging truck from the second film and a grill which could be connected to either interpretation. However, without the ability to rewind, the full analysis of these references can only be done once the movie becomes available for streaming.
4. The Penny
Toss A Coin To The Campbells

In some of the “Final Destination” films, coins have come close to causing death, with one particularly gruesome incident taking place in the fourth installment, titled “The Final Destination.” During this movie, Hunt loses his lucky coin in a swimming pool as it’s drawn into a drain. Eager to retrieve it, Hunt ends up getting pulled into the drain himself, and, as you can imagine, that doesn’t end well for him.
In the film “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” the coin Iris saved from a past event and stuck to her book turns out to be quite vengeful. Stefani accidentally lets it fall from the book in the movie, and later, an elderly woman retrieves it. She too drops the coin, and it eventually becomes lodged in some rail tracks. Not long after, a train collides with the Campbell family’s vehicle due to the derailed train, resulting in their tragic deaths.
3. Double The Logs
Still The Greatest Killer

Numerous spectators consider the car crash sequence in the second Final Destination film as one of the most memorable death scenes for the series and horror movies overall. A logging truck sets off a chain reaction leading to this catastrophic event, which is memorably revisited multiple times in Final Destination Bloodlines.
In Iris’s book, there was a previously mentioned sketch. Following this, Darlene, Stefani’s mother, narrowly avoided crashing into a logging truck. Lastly, the train that had derailed earlier was transporting logs, which ultimately resulted in the deaths of Stefani and Charlie.
2. Blowing Up The House
Never Gets Old

In an attempt to evade death’s grasp, I devised a seemingly wild sanctuary – one that, upon closer inspection, revealed a stroke of genius. It struck me as an appealing choice for Darlene to spend the remainder of her days within its walls. After all, if death cannot touch Darlene, then it stands little chance of reaching her children in the near future.
In this scenario, Death seemed to be strategically planning several steps ahead. When those children arrived at the house, a trap was triggered – a potted plant sprung open, releasing gas that ignited and ultimately causing an explosion. This is reminiscent of, or perhaps a reoccurrence of, the shocking event from the first Final Destination, where Alex’s teacher, Valerie, suffered the same fate.
1. Finally Explaining Bludworth
Farewell Tony Todd

As a cinephile, I must say that the most obvious homage, and perhaps a subtle farewell, was given in the film “Final Destination 5: Bloodlines“. The character who intrigued me the most was William Bludworth, the mysterious mortician, portrayed by the late Tony Todd. Throughout the series, fans have speculated for years that Bludworth might be none other than Death itself, given his uncanny knowledge of events yet to unfold.
In “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” it turns out that he knows so much not because he is Death, but because Bludworth survived the incident, which was made possible by Iris saving him. This revelation added a satisfying concluding touch to the series, the character, and Tony Todd’s acting performance.
