I’m so excited that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is doing so well! Sega is actually asking us, the fans, what characters we want to see added to the game in future DLC packs. It sounds like they’ve already got a whole year of awesome paid content planned, and they’re even going to be adding free racer characters regularly, which is amazing!
The game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds recently added a Minecraft pack, bringing popular characters, vehicles, and items from that game into the experience. A big free update is coming on October 22nd, introducing Joker from the Persona series as a playable character. Looking ahead, Sega is asking players for their ideas on how to improve and expand the game even further.
Series Producer Wants Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fans to Tell Sega What They Want
Speaking with Polygon, series producer Takashi Iizuka revealed that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will receive DLC for at least one more year, and potentially beyond. He encouraged players to share their ideas for future content, explaining that because the game is online, the team has a lot of flexibility to add more. Fans have already been discussing what they’d like to see on Reddit, and Iizuka’s comments are expected to spark even more discussion and feedback.

A recent comment from Iizuka about including fans in the planning for future downloadable content (DLC) for CrossWorlds has brought attention to concerns about the game itself. While Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is generally well-received, many players who purchased the Season Pass are unhappy. They feel that the lack of voice acting and sound effects for certain crossover characters is a significant issue, especially considering the Season Pass brings the total game cost to around $100. These players are asking Sega to prioritize improving the quality and value of future DLC instead of simply adding more characters. Currently, the game’s Season Pass has a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam, which shows how frustrated players are with its current direction.

Currently, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is planned to include at least 15 playable premium characters. The game will also keep adding free characters through updates, and Joker from Persona and Kasuga Ichiban from Like a Dragon are expected to be available soon. When new free characters are added, they’re often accompanied by special in-game events where players can earn extra rewards and customization items.
