Sega Settles Legal Dispute Against Social Media User Who Harassed Employee

As a long-time gamer and fervent supporter of the gaming industry, I’ve seen my fair share of online toxicity and harassment towards developers and employees. However, this latest news from Sega hits close to home. It’s disheartening to hear that one of our beloved game companies had to take legal action against an individual who made defamatory comments against one of their employees.

I recently came across an article on Eurogamer where they reported that Sega announced through their Japanese website that they had come to an agreement with a social media user who was harassing one of their employees.

The press release loosely translates to the person making unwarranted and disparaging remarks, targeting a Sega employee persistently.

Sega requires the person in question to compensate our employee for any harm caused, remove defamatory statements, and promise not to engage in such behavior again. The amount of damages has yet to be determined.

After reaching a resolution, Sega assures that they will respond accordingly to their Customer Harassment Policy when they deem any conduct as harmful or malicious. The gaming company is ready to pursue legal measures if required to prevent online bullying.

In March 2023, the team at Sega of America were the initial employees of a significant gaming firm to approve a labor union agreement. This contract encompasses multiple offices and applies to around 150 permanent and temporary workers.

That very same week, Sega announced its intention to let go of several hundred employees from various studios. According to Jurgen Post’s email, this decision was necessitated by the shifting economic conditions.

For gaming enthusiasts, the upcoming new version of Crazy Taxi is an exciting prospect. Sega has announced that this latest edition will offer an expansive open-world setting and multiplayer functionality.
