The Gathering – Final Fantasy deck could offer clues regarding the anticipated finale of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, hinting at what players might encounter.
At the PAX East panel discussing the forthcoming crossover expansion pack, Wizards of the Coast unveiled numerous new cards, however, one card specifically piqued the interest of observant spectators.
The card under discussion is “Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER,” but when flipped over, it transforms into “Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel,” showcasing his ultimate form, Safer Sephiroth. Notably, this card is receiving a borderless design, showcasing original artwork by Tetsuya Nomura, who serves as the creative director for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.
Yet, the fresh artwork for Safer Sephiroth in this remake shows variations compared to its original look, sparking debates on the consistency within the remake’s storyline.
Hinting At The Final Part Of The Trilogy?
In his social media post regarding the card, it appears that Nomura was rather tight-lipped about the interpretation of the latest artwork.
Additionally, there’s a cause for the revised look of Safer Sephiroth compared to its appearance in the initial game, yet I regretfully can’t disclose further details on this matter.
Nomura himself admits he intentionally arranged the dual faces of Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER to be positioned vertically. This means that if you have two copies of this special-edition card with alternate artwork and stack them, the combined image clearly shows it’s a single piece of art.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder how the finale of this remake will deviate from its original counterpart, given that details about the concluding chapter of the trilogy remain scant. In fact, we’re still in the dark about its title!
Regarding Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy, previews are happening extensively following the PAX East panel, and the official card gallery is being consistently updated with fresh card unveilings and artistic previews before its launch on June 13, or June 10 in Magic: The Gathering Arena. In simpler terms, we’re getting a lot of sneak peeks at new cards for this crossover game, and the gallery is being regularly updated with these previews as we approach the release date.
