September 26 Could Be a Huge Day for Persona Fans

Highlights

  • Persona fans have seen a rise in new releases spanning various consoles, expanding the franchise’s popularity.
  • Atlus has yet to announce a roadmap for future projects after Metaphor: ReFantazio, leaving fans in the dark about upcoming titles.
  • Persona fans should keep an eye on the Tokyo Game Show, where Atlus may unveil new games or details.

As a seasoned gamer who has traversed the Metaverse multiple times with Persona, I can confidently say that this franchise has become my personal beacon of hope amidst the monotonous sea of games. The sheer number of releases and platforms they’ve conquered over the last few years is nothing short of remarkable. However, much like a Phantom Thief lurking in the shadows, Atlus has yet to reveal its master plan for the future of Persona, leaving us fans yearning for more.

Fans of the game Persona have been given exceptional treatment in recent years. During this current console generation, Sega and Atlus have released numerous successful installments in the series, such as Persona 5 Royal, the action spin-off Persona 5 Strikers, the tactical RPG Persona 5 Tactica, and the enhanced remake Persona 3 Reload. This period also marked the first appearance of the Persona franchise on platforms beyond PlayStation, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Now that it’s available on all modern gaming systems, Atlus’ celebrated JRPG series has garnered more popularity than ever before.

Despite Atlus’ frequent delivery of new Persona content, it’s surprising they haven’t disclosed a plan for the franchise’s future. At present, there’s scant information about any forthcoming projects from Atlus, whether related to Persona or not. So far, the only games Atlus has officially announced are Metaphor: ReFantazio and an unspecified Persona 5: The Phantom X, with the latter yet to be confirmed for a global release. Since Atlus’ 2025 lineup remains a secret, it’s likely they will unveil some of their unreleased games soon. Therefore, fans should stay tuned for Tokyo Game Show in 2024 as it could offer insights into Atlus’ upcoming projects.

Persona Fans Should Keep an Eye On Tokyo Game Show Next Month

The Tokyo Game Show, one of Asia’s largest and longest-running video game trade fairs, is set to return next month, from September 26th to the 29th in 2024, at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, Japan. Despite being a few weeks away, most of this year’s attendees have already been announced. Notable publishers such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, Inti Creates, Nexon, Square Enix, and Sony Interactive Entertainment have confirmed their participation. Particularly exciting for fans of the “Persona” series, Atlus is also on the list of exhibitors for TGS 2024.

Atlus Could Have New Announcements to Make at TGS 2024

It’s not unexpected to see Atlus at TGS given their history of presenting their upcoming games there, either through online broadcasts or live demos. However, what sets 2024 apart is that Atlus, the creator of both the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, doesn’t have many new titles to exhibit this time around.

It could be that Atlus is using the event as an opportunity to showcase again Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 5: The Phantom X, but it seems unusual for them to set up a booth just for these two games. Given this, there’s a likelihood that Atlus might have more games to unveil at Tokyo Game Show, such as perhaps a fresh spin-off in the Persona series or a remastered version of an existing title.

If Atlus doesn’t reveal any new games during Tokyo Game Show, they might officially announce their plans to launch the global version of Persona 5: The Phantom X. Given that this game is currently only available in China and South Korea, if it appears at TGS, it could suggest an upcoming Japanese release, which would mean an international rollout as well. In any case, a Western launch for Persona 5: The Phantom X would be a fantastic start to 2025, keeping fans excited until the potential sixth mainline installment in the series arrives, which may still be years away.
