September 29 Is Going to Be a Huge Day for Death Stranding Fans

Key Takeaways

  • The Death Stranding 2 Tokyo Game Show 2024 presentation has been expanded.
  • The September 29 event is now planned to run for 90 minutes rather than 60.
  • Hideo Kojima will make a guest appearance at the presentation, together with half a dozen other people involved in the game.

As someone who’s been eagerly waiting for Death Stranding 2 since its initial reveal, I can hardly contain my excitement over the expanded Tokyo Game Show presentation! With Hideo Kojima himself gracing our screens and an additional 30 minutes dedicated to the game, it’s shaping up to be a truly unforgettable event.

According to the latest announcement from Kojima Productions, the duration of the Tokyo Game Show presentation for “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach” has been extended beyond its initial one-hour timeframe, meaning fans can expect a more comprehensive look at the upcoming game on September 29.

In December 2022 during The Game Awards, a lengthy trailer introduced the second part in Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic series, titled “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.” Later on, Kojima Productions disclosed that the game is expected to launch in 2025. It was recently made known that this game will be a significant highlight at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, with a special presentation focusing on it scheduled for September 29.

Death Stranding 2 Will Have a 90-Minute TGS 2024 Presentation

The original plans for TGS have been extended, as confirmed by Kojima Productions via a tweet in late September. Instead of a one-hour event, the upcoming game Death Stranding 2 will receive a 90-minute presentation, according to the Japanese firm. To make room for this additional 30 minutes, the special stage has been rescheduled from 10:30am JST to 10am JST. Hideo Kojima, along with several other key collaborators on his series such as Daichi Miura, Kenjiro Tsuda, and Nicolas Winding Refn, will be making an appearance at the TGS 2024 event. The entire presentation will be streamed live on YouTube.

Kojima Productions didn’t explain why they’re extending the duration of their presentation, leaving us unsure about their intentions for the extra 30 minutes at the event. However, considering that any new game footage likely prepared for TGS 2024 has probably been ready weeks ahead, it seems probable that this late adjustment will lead to extended guest interviews. Regardless, the upcoming presentation is anticipated to be the last major update on Death Stranding 2 in 2024.

Besides Death Stranding 2, Sony has other games lined up for their TGS 2024 event. Visitors can expect to play Astro Bot at a dedicated booth and even engage with a large themed vending machine. Additionally, Monster Hunter Wilds will be playable in the PlayStation booth as well.

While there hasn’t been a specific release date announced yet, it seems that Death Stranding 2 might not be available until at least the second quarter of 2025, if Sony’s statements are anything to go by. The reason being, Sony has declared that they won’t launch any sequels to their major franchises during their current fiscal year, which concludes in March next year. However, considering the pattern set by the first game and Sony’s traditional preference for holiday season releases, it appears that Death Stranding 2 may make its debut towards the end of 2025.
