The anticipated psychological survival horror game, “Cronos: The New Dawn,” now has an official release date.
Right from the start, it’s clear that the influences for “Cronos: The Dawn” are quite obvious, evident in its visual style and third-person gameplay. The developers have even admitted to drawing inspiration from the renowned horror series, “Resident Evil 4”. By blending these familiar elements with a unique storyline and distinct setting, “Cronos: The Dawn” seems poised to appeal to fans of both the original franchises and the horror genre as a whole. It’s a game that horror enthusiasts may not want to overlook.

Silent Hill and Dead Space Fans Should Mark Cronos: The New Dawn’s September 5 Launch on Their Calendars
Cronos: The New Dawn is Teed Up to Take From Some of Dead Space and Silent Hill’s Best Elements
Following initial successes with games such as Observer and Layers of Fear, Bloober Team’s work on the Silent Hill 2 Remake last year significantly elevated their status, positioning them as a leading contemporary horror studio. The upcoming game, Cronos: The Dawn, openly showcases its influences from Silent Hill and Dead Space, which are evident in the trailers Bloober has shared so far.
In a nutshell, the main character, simply referred to as ‘The Wanderer’, carries an appearance strikingly reminiscent of Isaac Clark. His equipment and weapons share striking similarities to those seen in ‘Dead Space’. On the opposite side, presenting elements akin to ‘Silent Hill’, the story unfolds with eerily silent yet nerve-wracking moments where The Wanderer encounters mysterious whispers and confronts other individuals who bring grim news.
Silent Hill f is launching on September 25, just a few weeks after Cronos.
Cronos: The New Dawn Looks to Bring its Own Unique Blend of Dread on September 5
Bloober Team has already shared their innovative approaches for Cronos: The New Dawn, in terms of storyline and game mechanics. The tale revolves around The Traveler who is assigned to traverse abnormal time fissures into the past. These rips were caused by a catastrophic event called The Change, which has supposedly destroyed Earth in the future, leaving it as a terrifying and surreal wasteland. Players will delve into an eerie world featuring a unique blend of “retro-futuristic technology combined with Eastern European Brutalist” aesthetics, spanning across two timelines.
One notable aspect of the game Cronos: The New Dawn that’s been highlighted is its unique merging mechanic. This feature gives a dark and difficult spin to how players engage with and defeat enemies, called the Orphans. The objective is to prevent these Orphans from fusing their twisted forms into stronger, more terrifying creatures. This concept seems reminiscent of Dead Space‘s limb severing mechanic, and both games can trace their third-person over-the-shoulder perspective back to RE4.
In Cronos: The New Dawn, the protagonist aims to endure in the past and locate individuals with unique abilities or insights to prevent or possibly undo The Change. This involves extracting their vital energies, which carries a heavy psychological burden as it suggests something sinister. This mental strain will significantly impact the storyline, making Cronos: The New Dawn more than just a blend of Dead Space, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil. Instead, it seems to be thoughtfully incorporating elements from these horror classics to craft an original and chilling tale.
