PGL CEO Silviu Stroie recently announced on social media that a few major Counter-Strike 2 tournaments scheduled for 2026 have been cancelled. This is due to a failure to follow the proper announcement process, which goes against Valve’s rules for running tournaments.
A recent social media post announced that all Starladder events planned for 2026 have been canceled. Additionally, two out of the three Fissure events originally scheduled for that year have also been removed from the calendar.
CS2 Events Slashed From the Schedule
The post from Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL, reads:
Okay, so it looks like some big CS2 tournaments in 2026 have been cancelled. Starladder won’t be running any Tier 1 events that year, and Fissure is also cutting back – we’re losing Playground 4 and 5. It’s a bit worrying because I haven’t seen any announcements from Starladder about Tier 1 events planned for 2027 either. Hopefully, they’ll share some news soon, but right now it’s looking a little sparse for pro CS.
One commenter highlighted the issue, asking, ‘How could they miss the deadline? If meeting this requirement is crucial to their business, it seems impossible.’
Valve requires tournament organizers to submit extra details shortly after first announcing their event. Some organizers didn’t meet this deadline, so those tournaments can’t proceed as planned.
The organizers involved haven’t commented on the situation, but one source noted the lack of announced major Starladder events scheduled before 2027, which was unclear. Starladder later clarified this, stating that they are planning a major event for October 2027.
