In 2020, the game titled “Shady Part of Me” was launched, and more recently, it has become one of the newest puzzle-platforming games available on Xbox Game Pass. If you’re curious about how to master the game’s contrasting light and dark mechanisms while delving into ‘In the Shadows,’ which is part of the Exposition Prologue for “Shady Part of Me,” here’s a hint on how to get started.
In contrast to other games that manipulate light and shadow in unique ways, ‘Shady Part of Me’ presents a young girl who is terrified of light, but her shadow provides assistance. This walkthrough guide titled ‘In the Shadows’ offers guidance on how to handle the game’s light-based puzzles when you’re just beginning, as well as explaining the controls and mechanics. Additionally, it lists all the paper origami birds hidden within ‘In the Shadows’ for your convenience.
Shady Part of Me In The Shadows Walkthrough (Exposition, Session 2)
Following the finish of the initial segment in the Exposition Prologue, you instantly proceed to the second part, titled ‘Session 2: In The Shadows.‘ The narrative begins with a little girl perched on a bed within a child’s room. At this stage, only a few controls are required, as outlined below for those playing on Xbox consoles:
– Press ‘A’ to interact or use items.
– Use the left stick to move around.
– Press ‘B’ to open and close inventory.
– Press ‘Y’ to access the map or pause menu.
This way, the instructions are presented in a more engaging and conversational manner.
- Left stick/D-pad – Move left/right/up/down
- Right stick – Tilt camera
- Jump – A
- Action – X
- Rewind time – Right Trigger/RB
- Restart at the last checkpoint – Hold Left Trigger/LB
- Switch characters – Y (Becomes available after completing ‘In the Shadows’)
To begin, please move out of the bedroom via the right-hand door and then position yourself within the circle marked white on the floor in the hallway. This action will alter the way forward, allowing you to enter the dimly lit room filled with beds by stepping into the shadows.
The young girl can only move in dimly lit zones, as entering bright areas makes her flinch or even panic more severely. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep close to the shadows and circumvent the areas illuminated by spotlights on the floor, as depicted in the image. Then, navigate around the beds and step into another white circle located at the end of the room near the right door, which will activate the next section ahead.
Light Puzzle One – Opening Door Light Puzzle (First Origami Bird)
At this juncture, you’ll probably discover the way to manipulate a sort of “backward button” to reverse time. As you approach a delicate origami bird shaped like a bird, situated before the double doors, they miraculously open and shower the little girl with light, making her halt and settle on the ground. To rewind time and retake this part, press and hold down the “right trigger”. This process can be thought of as the initial major “light riddle” presented by the game.
To solve the door puzzle and reach safety without getting caught by the light, position yourself behind the table so the girl blends into the darkness. Once the doors have closed again, swiftly pick up the origami bird from there and move to the right side of the screen. Then, proceed to the right and stand on the next white circle to finish this part and initiate the following environmental alteration.
As a gamer, I’ve got my eyes peeled for some foldable feathered friends! In the initial segment of the Exposition prologue, there are four origami birds waiting to be discovered. Then, as I venture into ‘In the Shadows,’ there will be five more to uncover.
Moving and Flickering Spotlight Puzzles
As I’m blocked from advancing further due to the light streaming in from the window, I decide to head towards the screen instead. There, I encounter a sequence of lights that switch on and off in the upcoming light puzzle, focusing on timing. It’s crucial to remain hidden in the shadows and wait patiently until the lights go out, only then should I proceed past them. Additionally, there’s an origami bird waiting to be found down the left corridor before I make my move past the shifting light on the right. I’ll need to use the small balcony for concealment to avoid being spotted.
Heading upward past the bookshelves and intriguing puzzle spots, just like previously, I find myself following the path towards where a girl mentioned a little boy who shuns playtime. The sunbeams filtering in through the windows guide me there.
Additionally, there’s a hidden origami bird located near the stack of books along the right side of the hallway overhead. It might go unnoticed when one is engrossed in observing the light patterns. Should you fail to spot it initially, simply retrace your steps or rewind to give it another try.
Window Light Puzzle Solution and Completing In The Shadows
In the game ‘In the Shadows’, the last light puzzle is referred to as a window light puzzle. Here, you’ll discover another origami bird’s hiding spot. Since the window light remains static, you can navigate this area and locate the paper bird in the corner by walking around the beams of light and following the line of shadow on the floor. The areas where the text reads ‘They will see’, ‘They will say’, and ‘They will talk’ should guide your path. Keep close to walls and floor furniture, and move until you reach the next white circle on the right.
Once more, step into the circle to initiate the next section. This new area features a hall filled with floating books – a unique twist on the 3D puzzle platforming elements you’ve encountered thus far. When you reach the end of this book-lined corridor, take a right and continue down the final passage. You’ll eventually find yourself standing on the final white circle, marking the start of Act 1, titled ‘Whole Again.’ Keep an eye out for the fifth origami bird hidden between the two statues as you pass the text that reads ‘Judging.’
With this, you can now proceed to ‘In the Shadows’, marking the beginning of Act 1 in ‘Shady Part of Me‘, allowing you to interact with and guide the little girl’s shadow, and seamlessly transition between the two characters as the story unfolds.
