Simu Liu In Talks For Rights To Sleeping Dogs Movie

Actor Simu Liu, who gained fame as the lead character in Marvel’s Shang-Chi, has announced discussions about acquiring the film rights for the Sleeping Dogs project are underway.

In response to a fan showing a fight scene from Sleeping Dogs, Liu stated, “Collaborating with the copyright owners to bring Sleeping Dogs to the movies!

Beyond his initial remarks, Liu also mentioned that he aims to develop a Sleeping Dogs 2 game as well.

Liu expresses that it’s rare for film projects to progress from the pitch stage to being greenlit. He finds it exhausting when executives don’t grasp the intricacies of the process. However, the immense enthusiasm for Sleeping Dogs among everyone has given them a fresh burst of energy! His vision has always been to first create a movie, followed by a sequel game for all to enjoy.

Although the film isn’t imminent as Liu is still in talks, this development is more promising than learning it’s been canceled. After all, with the actor on board, there’s hope that we might eventually witness a sequel to the beloved video game.

First released in 2012, Sleeping Dogs was originally developed by United Front Games, now out of business, and published by Square Enix. This action-adventure game is set in modern-day Hong Kong, where the protagonist, Wei Shen – a martial artist and undercover cop – infiltrates the Sun On Yee Triad organization. Although it didn’t make a significant splash at its launch, Sleeping Dogs has since garnered a devoted fanbase among gaming enthusiasts.

Speaking of Simu Liu, he was last seen in Marvel’s “What If” television series, and is set to feature in the upcoming movie “Last Breath”, where he will share screen time with Woody Harrelson. This film is expected to premiere in cinemas this coming February.

Regarding upcoming ventures, it has been verified that Liu will indeed be involved in the second installment of Shang-Chi, according to Disney’s confirmation.
