Shanks Takes the Throne: Oda’s Shocking Revelation About the New Pirate King!

This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga.

Summary

  • Gol D. Roger was the Pirate King who found the One Piece and started the new age of piracy.
  • Shanks is the likely successor to Roger, not Luffy, due to similar fighting styles and strong Haki.
  • Luffy aims to surpass Roger by taking down Imu as well, reaching a ceiling higher than both Roger and Shanks.

The narrative of “One Piece” has grown more intense lately, especially with the appearance of a significant adversary on Elbaf Island. With each new chapter, Luffy moves nearer to his objective of reaching the “One Piece” and claiming the title of Pirate King, much like Roger did. However, it doesn’t automatically imply that Oda intends for Luffy to assume the role of another Roger in the storyline. Instead, a different powerful and well-liked character from the series has already been earmarked for this role by the author, Oda.

Gol D. Roger – The Pirate King Was The Greatest Pirate

  • Started the New Age Of Piracy
  • Found The One Piece and Conquered the Grand Line

Gol D. Roger, undoubtedly one of the most emblematic characters throughout the series, was actually the first character depicted in the manga. For many years, fans were left intrigued by Gol D. Roger’s enigma, and it is only in recent times that they have uncovered additional information regarding him and his crew.

Roger has been recognized as the Pirate King, a distinction believed to be unique worldwide since there’s no evidence of anyone else having

This individual, accompanied by his team, essentially dominated the vast expanse of the Grand Line and arrived at Laugh Tale, the Final Island. It was there that they unearthed the One Piece, a riches beyond what even the most imaginative fans could fathom.

Beyond simply accomplishing it, Roger was instrumental in ushering in a new era of piracy. Prior to his execution, he famously declared the location of the fabled One Piece, inspiring countless sailors to venture out to the seas in pursuit.

If you’re after my treasures, they’re all yours! I’ve collected and kept them all in one location. All you need to do is locate it.” – Gol D. Roger

There’s still much to discover about Gol D. Roger, but as the narrative unfolds, creator Oda will likely share more details about him, especially since the crew has recently met another comrade of Roger’s, Scopper Gaban, on Elbaf – the Land of Giants known as Mountain Eater.

The New Roger of One Piece

Shanks is the Closest to Roger, Not Luffy

Fans of “One Piece” may think that Luffy is destined to become the next “Red-Haired Pirate” (Roger), and it’s a reasonable guess. However, it appears that creator Oda has something different in mind. While there are similarities between the Straw Hat crew and the Roger Pirates, it seems more likely that the new “Red-Haired Pirate” will be Shanks, his personal protege.

In many ways, Shanks and Roger share remarkably similar combat techniques, as they both wield a single sword. However, their striking resemblances don’t stop there. They are known for possessing incredibly potent Haki, making them arguably the strongest Haki users of their respective times. Interestingly enough, neither of them consume Devil Fruits, which is indeed unusual. Moreover, Roger’s crew, including Buggy, viewed Shanks as a potential successor to Roger himself. Lastly, Shanks was entrusted with a dream from Roger personally.

If Shanks had chosen to do so earlier, he could have claimed the title of Pirate King. But surprisingly, he hadn’t pursued the One Piece until this point in time.

The world was dominated by a single individual – the notorious Pirate King, Gold Roger. With wealth, reputation, and control, he ruled supreme until his final moments. His last words ignited a wave of adventurers who set sail in search of his hidden treasure.

Fans should remember too, Shanks and Buggy essentially grew up together under the Roger Pirates, embarking on numerous journeys with them along the way.

Luffy Has To Surpass Roger, Not Become Him

Luffy Has a Higher Ceiling Than Both Roger and Shanks

In simpler terms, Luffy’s ambition isn’t limited to finding the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King; his aspirations surpass those of Shanks and even Roger. Luffy isn’t only seeking the One Piece, but he also intends to defeat Imu, who is currently Nika, a feat that not even Joy Boy managed during the Void Century. In many ways, Luffy’s journey mirrors that of Joy Boy.
