Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town review

As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt and a soft spot for the quirky and the offbeat, I must confess that Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town has captured my heart like no other game in recent memory. You see, it was back in the early days of my gaming journey when I first encountered this little rascal, thanks to a rather peculiar video game adaptation that had me giggling like a schoolgirl.

Approximately two years ago, I was acquainted with Shin Chan through a video game. Although I had only casually recognized the peculiar five-year-old from various internet memes, playing Shin-chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation gave me a deeper understanding of this mischievous character. This iconic figure in both manga and anime is widely known in Japan, and his antics, including his knack for shaking his bottom, have made him a frequent subject in various media for nearly as long as I’ve been alive. Now, following the release of a delightful game in 2022, we have another sequel, Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town, which shares some similarities with its predecessor.

Following another family vacation touring Japan, Shin-chan finds himself residing in a serene village in Akita, continuing his ordinary childhood days filled with chores for neighbors and insect hunting. However, an uneventful few months lay ahead until a peculiar tram arrives on an unused track, transporting him to the Coal Town. This run-down mining town, nearing its end, revives a glimmer of hope when Shiro (your dog) shows up. As in his previous adventure, Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town offers a relaxed gaming experience with enough humor to keep things engaging.

As you journey towards the title’s industrial town, you’ll engage in activities similar to those from the past Shin Chan game. This journey starts with catching bugs, an easy task that involves approaching a small insect either fluttering in the air or resting on a log and swiping your net. Bugs can be found in various nooks of the village, and since there’s a eccentric bug enthusiast in town aiming to collect them all, you’ll even receive some extra cash for your efforts.

As a dedicated fan myself, I can tell you that Shin Chan shares my passion for fishing! So, be ready to see your trusty rod in action quite often. Fishing with Shin Chan is like stepping into a video game world of angling, where pulling the bobber down is all it takes to reel in a monster catch. Plus, you’ll earn some pocket money by showcasing your catches, and just like collecting bugs, you can strive to fill a notebook with various fish species – each one brimming with fun facts about these aquatic friends!

In Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town, not only can you indulge in peaceful activities, but there’s also a touch of farming thrown in! Outside your home, there are four small plots (with possibly more to discover later), where you can plant seeds and wait a few days to harvest delicious vegetables that the villagers might appreciate. If you find watering the crops enjoyable, it will boost the yield, but if you find it tedious, you can skip it altogether.

As the days pass and you’re engaged in capturing animals and farming activities within your village, a variety of incidents will unfold. These events often necessitate your assistance to advance the narrative, typically by gathering specific creatures or resources scattered across the countryside. Despite the daily time constraints before your bedtime, there’s no pressing need for haste, ensuring a stress-free experience throughout.

After spending a relaxed couple of hours on this loop, you’ll reach Coal Town, where the ambiance transforms dramatically. This town offers several activities, but the primary focus revolves around gathering materials for a professor creating inventions to better the community. This task often involves strolling through the streets in search of scattered rocks and minerals or purchasing them with your earned yen at a local shop.

Additional pastimes abound in Coal Town as well: assisting the chef at the village eatery (by delivering fresh produce), participating in mine cart races (a hands-on element of the game that’s quite thrilling), or unwinding in the hot springs while eavesdropping on town gossip. These activities are essential to move the story forward, yet the experience remains stress-free and enjoyable as you engage with them.

The relaxing vibes of the recent Shin chan games really are infectious. It’s just so easy to sit for thirty minutes and watch the child protagonist run around shaking his ass and mishear people in amusing ways. The visuals help the charm of the game reach peak levels too, bringing the signature style of the anime to life in a truly gorgeous and unique way.

As a big fan,

As a gamer, I’ve found myself completely captivated by Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town. It’s like stepping into a cozy little world where time seems to slow down. The everyday activities such as bug catching and fishing are surprisingly engrossing, and the endearing characters and their mishaps only add to the charm.
