Summary

  • Dragon Quest 10 Offline has been released on mobile devices, but only in Japan.
  • Despite fan demand, a Western release of the 2012 MMORPG Dragon Quest 10 remains unlikely.
  • A single-player offline version of the game was first released in Japan in 2022.

I’m thrilled to share some news with fellow gamers! Square Enix has just dropped a bombshell – Dragon Quest 10 Offline is now available for download on our mobile devices, but only if you’re based in Japan at the moment. On top of that, they’ve slashed the price for this single-player adventure, making it an even sweeter deal! However, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for a Western release of Dragon Quest 10. Fingers crossed that it happens soon!

Originally launched in Japan back in 2012, “Dragon Quest X” stands as the sole MMORPG within the extensive series to this day. Although it’s been adapted for various gaming platforms since then, “Dragon Quest X” has yet to be distributed in the Western market, making it one of the rare mainline games without a Western release. The desire among fans persists since its debut, but with developers frequently expressing their intention to adapt the game for international players, it appears that such an event may never occur. A fresh mobile version has recently been unveiled, but Western fans are advised to manage their anticipations accordingly.

According to Gematsu, the standalone offline versions of “Dragon Quest X” and its expansion titled “The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally” have been launched exclusively for iOS and Android devices in Japan. The single-player offline version of “Dragon Quest X Offline,” originally a multiplayer game, was first introduced in Japan in 2022 and later rolled out to other Asian regions. Presently, the mobile port of this base game is on sale at 1,960 yen ($13), which will rise to 2,800 yen ($18) on January 28. The expansion can be purchased for 1,920 yen ($12) until January 28. Compared to the initial release, the offline version offers a more condensed map and a streamlined graphical style.

Dragon Quest 10 Offline Gets Mobile Release in Japan

Originally launched for the Nintendo Wii, Dragon Quest X eventually found its way onto the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, and PC platforms. This installment is known for its real-time battles and intricate job system, which received acclaim from critics for both its gameplay mechanics and user-friendly design that caters to players with less experience in MMORPGs. In December 2024, a fan translation of the story cutscenes for Dragon Quest X emerged, demonstrating continued interest even after more than a decade without updates from Square Enix. However, during its 35th anniversary celebration in 2021, fans were left wanting when no news was shared about bringing Dragon Quest X to Western markets.

In Japan, the Dragon Quest series continues to be highly favored, with Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age (released in 2017) selling two million physical copies within its first two days on sale. The upcoming mainline title, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, is set to be the first Dragon Quest game from the main series to launch simultaneously worldwide, although no specific release date has been given yet.
