2025 is shaping up to be a thrilling year for me as a dedicated Demon Slayer fan, as we’re finally going to witness the grand finale of this captivating series! Unlike many other anime, Demon Slayer isn’t wrapping up with a final season; instead, it’s set to unfold in a trilogy of movies, adapting the Infinity Castle arc from the manga onto the big screen. This much-anticipated segment of the tale has been long overdue for animation, and I can hardly contain my excitement, given Demon Slayer’s exceptional animation quality that we’ve come to appreciate over the years!
In the narrative of “Demon Slayer”, Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko have been pivotal figures, appearing almost consistently throughout the series. Nezuko has significantly influenced Tanjiro’s path, driving him to avenge their family and transform her back into a human. As they progressed, Nezuko also evolved, gaining strength and significance within the plot. However, it may shock fans who haven’t read the manga to discover that Nezuko is expected to have minimal involvement in the Infinity Castle arc. One might wonder why such a significant and beloved character would be absent from the climax of the series. The reason behind this decision remains unclear.
Be aware, this information could ruin the ending of the Demon Slayer manga for you if you haven’t finished the anime yet. Proceed with caution if you prefer not to know the spoilers before watching the series unfold.
Why is Nezuko Important?
Her Very Special Power
Character | Nezuko Kamado |
Series | Demon Slayer |
Anime Debut | Episode 1 |
Manga Debut | Chapter 1 |
In the climax of Swordsmith Village, something extraordinary unfolded involving Nezuko that marked a significant shift in the narrative of Demon Slayer. Throughout the storyline, even the mightiest demons shared a common vulnerability – they all succumb to sunlight. So, if one engages with these demons persistently and manages to survive until dawn, regardless of their power, they perish under the sun. This rule applies to Kibutsuji Muzan, the Demon King as well, who has but one remaining flaw: his susceptibility to sunlight, which prevents him from achieving perfection and immortality.
After transforming into a demon, Nezuko has consistently been vulnerable to sunlight, no matter how strong or human-like she appeared in that form. However, at the conclusion of the Swordsmith Village arc, it was disclosed that Nezuko had conquered this weakness and is now capable of surviving in daylight. Additionally, this moment marked a significant shift for her as she could finally discard her bamboo muzzle and communicate verbally once more.
In contrast to all other demons throughout history, who were once humans and retained their vulnerability to sunlight, only Nezuko managed to mutate back to a state where she could withstand the sun again. For over a thousand years, Muzan had sought a means to overcome his own sensitivity to sunlight, viewing it as crucial for achieving everlasting life. Upon discovering that Nezuko has conquered this weakness of his, Muzan becomes consumed by the desire to locate her.
Nezuko’s Safety is Key to Victory
Nezuko Being Captured Would Likely Destroy Humanity’s Chances
After overcoming her sunlight vulnerability, Nezuko became Muzan’s chief focus. Previously, his fixation was on deciphering the mysteries of the blue spider lilies, which had temporarily cured his human form of illness but failed to grant him true everlasting life. Instead, Muzan became consumed with the idea of capturing Nezuko. To him, she embodied a perfect, eternal body. If he could seize her, he believed, he too could attain such perfection.
Over time, I’ve witnessed the valiant efforts of the Demon Slayer Corps, yet they’ve consistently fallen short against Muzan. His power is unmatched, and though they relentlessly battle demons birthed from his influence, they seldom strike at the heart of the issue – Muzan himself. Their one glimmer of hope lies in exploiting his sole vulnerability: sunlight. If Muzan manages to break free from this weakness, the Demon Slayer Corps and humanity may find themselves with no means to overcome him.
To prevent Muzan from learning about Nezuko’s powers and replicating them, it’s essential to keep her out of his reach. Muzan is a clever being with a deep understanding of science and a long lifespan, making it likely that he could eventually unlock Nezuko’s abilities, even if it takes time. This is a risk that humanity cannot afford to take. Although Nezuko possesses remarkable strength and abilities, it’s in everyone’s best interest for her to remain hidden from Muzan and kept as far away as possible to minimize the chance of her ever being captured by him.
From a logical perspective, it’s challenging to comprehend why Muzan couldn’t acquire Nezuko’s powers if she entered the Infinity Castle with the other Demon Slayers. This potential plot hole would be significant, as it would eliminate a vulnerability that Muzan could be exploited for. Given Nezuko’s crucial role in the series and her popularity among fans, it seems plausible that she will have limited involvement in the Infinity Castle arc. Her absence from the final battle is essential for the main antagonist to be defeated, contributing to a satisfying conclusion for the series.
