One particularly intriguing revelation from this book is the true identity of All For One, along with the story behind his moniker.

Horikoshi Reveals All For One’s Real Name

His Name Is Zen Shigaraki

In the latest fan publication for “My Hero Academia,” titled “My Hero Academia Ultra Age,” significant details concerning one of the series’ main villains, All For One, have been disclosed.

In the series, it’s primarily All For One who has instigated much of the turmoil, and he is the sworn enemy of All Might, engaging in numerous confrontations with him.

Horikoshi recently unveiled a significant disclosure about the identity of our main antagonist – and it’s none other than his complete, long-awaited name! Until now, readers have only been acquainted with his last name, Shigaraki, which he inherited by Tomura. However, this crucial detail was never before revealed in the manga.

In an unexpected twist, it was unveiled that the true identity of All For One is Zen Shigaraki as revealed by Horikoshi.

Horikoshi Reveals How Zen Shigaraki Got His Last Name

The Name Came From Shigaraki Tanuki

Zen Shigaraki, more commonly recognized as All For One, didn’t acquire the surname Shigaraki by birth. Instead, it was Zen himself who took on the name after learning about a woman he had heard rumors of, who went by Shigaraki Tanuki.

Horikoshi portrays her as lacking a protector, yet she persists by remaining stationed outside the boundary of the red-light district.

In Japanese, she was commonly known as Shigaraki Yaki Tanuki, which translates to Pottery-made Raccoon Statue from Shigaraki, in English.

Despite Horikoshi’s efforts, Shigaraki Tanuki’s tale doesn’t conclude on a positive note; instead, it finishes with her lifeless body discovered beside the river.

Should you yearn for freedom, yield to me, my comrades. And testify, by my side. The looming void age shall spawn a more flawless demon ruler. This will be the tale of how I ascend as the supreme demon lord! — All For One (Zen Shigaraki)

This tale, though somewhat ambiguous, essentially recounts the origin story of All For One. Shigaraki Tanuki is depicted as his biological mother. Although it’s not explicitly mentioned, viewers have inferred this due to All For One’s backstory, which has been previously revealed. In this backstory, we learn that he was born from her and later consumed her remains after her death. These fragments of memories he retains are remnants of their mother-son relationship. Some mysterious force compelled him to adopt her name without realizing she was actually his own mother.
