This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Weekly Shonen Jump is widely considered the greatest manga magazine, and with good reason. It’s where many iconic series first appeared, including classics like Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, as well as more recent hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.
Weekly Shonen Jump has been facing challenges recently, particularly after the popular manga series My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen both concluded in 2024. Since then, the magazine hasn’t had another hit to the same level. However, a new series is changing that: Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, the official sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen. This sequel is quickly becoming a major success, and fans are excited to see what the author, Gege, does with this promising new story.
Weekly Shonen Jump Lost Two of Its Biggest Series In 2024
- My Hero Academia Ended in August 2024
- Jujutsu Kaisen Ended in September 2024
Weekly Shonen Jump is facing a challenging period, arguably the most difficult it’s seen in ten years. Late in 2024, two of its most popular series concluded one after the other, creating a significant void in the magazine. These were My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, both major titles that have been central to modern shonen manga and the success of Jump itself.
My Hero Academia, a popular action series, began in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014 and concluded in August 2024 after a run of 430 chapters. While fans were sad to see Deku’s journey finish, the story received a satisfying ending. Now that the anime adaptation has also concluded, sales of the series are expected to decrease.
Jujutsu Kaisen told the story of Yuji Itadori and was known for its exciting fights. The final part of the series was very popular in Weekly Shonen Jump. Although it began in 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen had a relatively short run, concluding in September 2024 after 271 chapters – not long after My Hero Academia finished. Interestingly, Jujutsu Kaisen continues to sell well, and its anime adaptation is still ongoing. Even in 2025, despite not having any new volumes released, Jujutsu Kaisen was the second best-selling manga series.
Both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia were huge successes for Weekly Shonen Jump, making it difficult for the magazine to end those series. Currently, One Piece is really the only top-selling manga from Jump. However, a new series is gaining popularity and its sales are now comparable to those of My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen during their peak.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is The Perfect Replacement For MHA And JJK
- Modulo Volume 1 Sales Prove It Can Replace Both JJK and MHA
- Modulo Will End After A Short Run
Although Jujutsu Kaisen finished in 2024, its author, Gege Akutami, surprised fans by returning with a new story in 2025. This new series, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, takes place 68 years after the battle with Sukuna, continuing within the same universe, and has already generated a lot of excitement.
I’m absolutely blown away by the reception to the first volume of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo! It’s been a massive hit right out of the gate. Seriously, it didn’t just do well – it became the best-selling volume upon release! And get this – it actually broke records, becoming the highest-selling new manga ever for Weekly Shonen Jump. It’s incredible to see so many people loving it!
It’s not surprising that a long-running series like Modulo continues to perform well, but its success is still noteworthy, particularly considering that Boruto was also once featured in the same magazine.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo is quickly becoming a standout series, stepping in as a strong successor to both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Amazing, But It’s Set To End In A Few Months
- Gege Could Start a New Manga After Modulo
- Horikoshi Could Start His Own New Series Soon
Viewers are really enjoying Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Since its debut in September 2025, the series has quickly become popular and earned a lot of positive feedback.
Unfortunately, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo won’t be able to fill the void left by popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. This is because Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a very brief manga.
I’ve been following the new Modulo manga, and Gege Akutami has made it clear from the start that he doesn’t plan for it to be a long series. He originally envisioned around three volumes, and it looks like it’s still on track to run for about six months total. While many of us were hoping it might continue longer, everything points to Modulo remaining a short, concise story.
As a huge Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo fan, I’m so excited – the two main fights, Tsurugi against Maru and Dabura versus Yuka, are both underway! And honestly, one of them is already nearing its end – it’s been absolutely wild to watch!
While fans are still eager to see Yuji Itadori come back, the manga is nearing its conclusion.
Fans are hoping Gege Akutami will create more content, either a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen taking place between the main story and the Modulo arc, or a completely new manga series.
Kohei Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia, has mentioned wanting to begin a new manga series. Many believe his next story would be very successful, even if it’s completely different from My Hero Academia.
Many fans are eager to see Gege Akutami and Kohei Horikoshi both start new, long-running series in Weekly Shonen Jump, and it’s likely they will eventually. Unfortunately, there’s not much information available yet about when those projects might begin. In the meantime, fans can continue enjoying the current arc of Modulo as the action intensifies.
The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen is now airing, adapting the Culling Game arc. It picks up after the events in Shibuya, following Yuji Itadori’s journey. This season will be split into two parts with a short pause in between. Episode 3 is scheduled to release on January 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM Pacific Time, and at 5:00 PM in the UK. For those interested in more, a sequel manga called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is also being released, taking place 68 years after the original story ends. You can read new chapters for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
