In The Outer Worlds 2, your decisions truly matter, shaping the story, the world around you, and how you advance through the main missions. A significant early choice players face is deciding whether to trust Kaur or Milverstreet when you first meet them in Fairfield.
Kaur and Milverstreet have different approaches to dealing with the Protectorate. Kaur wants to completely dominate them through force, while Milverstreet prefers to win people over and bring them into Auntie’s Choice. In Outer Worlds 2, players deciding which one to support should weigh these differences carefully.
What Happens If You Side With Kaur?
Choosing to help Kaur in Outer Worlds 2 begins the mission ‘Above and Beyond Repair’. This mission sends you to the Euphoria Coast Automech Repair Center, located on the southeastern side of Paradise Island, where you’ll find the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus. This device gives you a short-lived shield, protecting you from damage and negative status effects.
Once you return to Kaur, she’ll ask you to complete ‘Ascent in the Howling Tower’. This mission sends you to the Skycutter power plant, located on the northwest coast of the southern island in Paradise. You’ll need to explore this dungeon-like area, and then send a signal to the Vox Relay to disable a lot of their technology.
If you decide to trust Kaur, she’ll lead you to the shield Gadget, and you’ll also receive Kaur’s Kuirass, a piece of body armor, and her unique gun, the Kaur’s Korroder. This gun fires corrosive rounds and can infect your enemies.
What Happens If You Side With Milverstreet?
In Outer Worlds 2, choosing to support Minister Milverstreet will begin the quest ‘A Refreshing Bit of News’. This quest sends you to the Ministry of Accuracy to investigate how the Protectorate uses Mind Refreshment. While there, you’ll meet Inez, who will become the first companion you can recruit.
Get the information and head back to Milverstreet – he’ll give you a quest called ‘Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice’. To finish it, travel to Westport, earn the trust of the Vigilant, and persuade him to leave Westport and bring his people to Fairfield.
By earning Vigilant Hogarth’s trust and then disrupting Westport to make him relocate, you can obtain the Writ of Conscription – one path to accessing the Vox Relay in Outer Worlds 2.
If you side with Milverstreet in Outer Worlds 2, you’ll unlock the Topmost Coat body armor and his signature Gentleperson’s Oxonian Hat. This hat boosts your critical hit chance and damage.
So, Should You Side With Milverstreet or Kaur in Outer Worlds 2?
Choosing to support Kaur will give you good protective armor and a weapon effective against armored enemies relatively early in the game. You’ll also learn where to find a shield-boosting gadget.
Getting to the main quest areas – the automech repair center and the Skycutter plant – will take a significant amount of travel time. The Skycutter plant is especially challenging, so it’s best to wait until you reach around Level 6 before heading there.
Choosing to support Milverstreet will introduce you to your first potential companion during the initial mission at the Ministry of Accuracy. It will also open a path to access the Vox Relay by earning the trust of someone in Westport. While building that trust takes time – and eventually involves sabotaging Westport during Milverstreet’s second mission – the Writ of Conscription you receive makes the effort worthwhile.
When deciding between Milverstreet and Kaur in Outer Worlds 2, choose Milverstreet if you’re not letting roleplaying guide your decision. His storyline unlocks a companion and provides access to the Vox Relay. While Kaur offers better starting gear, you can still obtain the shield Gadget by siding with Milverstreet.
