Should you move to Thirdborn or Paradis in Avowed?

In the closing chapters of Emerald Stair, you’ll be faced with a decision concerning the citizens of Fior mes Iverno within the quest “Ancient Soil” in Avowed. Following the siege of Steel Garrote, Fior mes Iverno is grappling with the aftermath and must decide whether to move to Thirdborn or Paradis.

In an unexpected twist, it seems the city’s governor has given me the freedom to choose between moving to Thirdborn or Paradis in the world of Avowed. Which one do I find more appealing?

Choosing Thirdborn in Avowed

In simpler terms, Quilicci is advocating for Fior mes Iverno to move to Thirdborn. His reasoning being that they would still be able to freely pursue their study of animancy there, which includes research on the Dreamscourge and other projects. Moreover, Thirdborn is far from the Steel Garrote, providing them some distance and safety as the Steel Garrote may seek revenge after previously failing to breach Fior’s defenses.

Nevertheless, the governor is against this proposal since he intends to move to Paradise for better supervision of the Steel Garrote. It’s possible that if the people of Fior remain in close proximity to the Aedyran military, they might glean more information about their strategies and potentially gain an advantage.

If you opt to relocate the people from Fior to Thirdborn, it means transferring them to an adjacent location within Shatterscarp. Unfortunately, the situation in this area is dire, as the Dreamscourge has overrun the land and transformed many of its inhabitants into Dreamthralls. The citizens of Fior will initially find safety in the central city of Thirdborn, but they won’t remain there for long.

The plot thickens in other areas of the region, and they become crucial to the overall narrative. I won’t spoil what happens in Shatterscarp for you, but if you relocate the citizens of Fior to Thirdborn, you’ll need to make a significant decision about their future fairly quickly. This choice carries heavy consequences, as some Fior citizens will lose their lives based on your decision. This pivotal moment occurs during the main quest “Shadows of the Past” in the game Avowed.

Saving Fiornian citizens too might shape the course of events within the game as it progresses further.

Choosing Paradis in Avowed

From another perspective, you could align yourself with the governor against Quilicci, which might lead the people of Fior towards Paradis. However, it’s important to note that this choice appears riskier at first glance, given that Fior has recently faced an attempt by their opposition to destroy their city.

In essence, it seems that this choice is likely the most suitable for Fior, given they are migrating towards the relatively secure Dawnshore instead of the perilous wilds of Shatterscarp. By doing so, you can shield them from the storyline events that transpire in Shatterscarp. This action could potentially safeguard the lives of some citizens and make your decision in the Shadows of the Past quest more straightforward when it’s time to make a move. Notably, these Shatterscarp story events have no bearing on the Fior citizens whatsoever.

Should you choose to move Fior to Paradis, they will establish themselves close to the city gates. In this location, you can interact with the governor for a reward of 500 gold and additional conversation. You’ll discover that the people of Fior are managing quite well given their circumstances, as it seems the Steel Garrote remains oblivious to their presence, unaware they reside so close.

In the end, it’s your call where to direct Fior mes Iverno. If you desire some weight to your choices in the game Avowed, consider sending them to Thirdborn. But if your main concern is their overall welfare, opt for Paradis instead.
