Fans of Japanese survival horror are in for a treat! A collaboration between the popular game series Silent Hill and Fatal Frame is officially happening. Both games were groundbreaking in the early 2000s, and this partnership is exciting news for genre enthusiasts.
The Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series, while created by different companies, have had similar paths recently. Both were incredibly popular Japanese survival horror games, but both also stopped releasing new games for a while – Silent Hill after 2012 and Fatal Frame after 2014. While Fatal Frame hasn’t gotten a completely new game like Silent Hill f, it’s been making a comeback with remasters and the upcoming Crimson Butterfly remake.
Silent Hill and Fatal Frame Collide
Okay, so this is pretty cool! Koei Tecmo just announced a crossover between the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly remake and the new Silent Hill f game. Basically, we’re getting some collab costumes as DLC. They haven’t said much else, but I’m guessing it’ll be a fun swap – Hinako from Silent Hill f will probably get to wear Mio and Mayu’s outfits, and those two sisters will likely get to rock her school uniform. I’m really excited to see how this looks in-game!
The announcement has been met with excitement from fans, many of whom are thrilled to see these classic Japanese horror games getting attention again. Players are particularly curious about the costumes in the Fatal Frame 2 remake, hoping to see some favorites return. While new bonus costumes have been announced for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, some from previous versions – like the short yukatas and swimsuits originally added to the Xbox release – haven’t been shown yet.
Fatal Frame 2 and Silent Hill f’s Thematic Similarities
These two games are among the most popular survival horror franchises to emerge from Japan in the early 2000s, and they share some common themes, making a crossover particularly exciting. The original Silent Hill games typically featured Western characters, but Silent Hill f shifts the setting to 1960s Japan, while Fatal Frame 2 takes place in the 1980s. Both games center around young women facing terrifying situations rooted in Japanese folklore, and they have limited means of protecting themselves. As the stories unfold, it becomes apparent that things aren’t as they seem, and the main characters are forced to make challenging decisions.
We don’t yet know when the DLC combining Silent Hill f and Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly will be released. Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is scheduled to launch on March 12, 2026. It’s uncertain if the DLC will be available on all platforms because Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but Silent Hill f isn’t currently on that system. However, this could change. The Silent Hill 2 remake took a year to arrive on Xbox after its PlayStation release, and while the developers haven’t confirmed a Switch 2 version, it’s still a possibility. Any potential Switch 2 releases from the Silent Hill series might be announced at the upcoming Nintendo Direct in February.
