Silent Hill f Release Date: Could It Be Closer Than We Think?

Last week, Konami held an exclusive event focusing solely on the upcoming mainline entry of the “Silent Hill” series, titled “Silent Hill f“. The 30-minute livestream provided valuable insights into the game’s setting and narrative without displaying actual gameplay footage. Konami unveiled that “Silent Hill f” will unfold in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, influenced by the real-life Kanayama district in Gero. They also disclosed that the protagonist will be a young high school girl named Hinako Shimuzu, who must battle for survival as Ebisugaoka is swallowed by fog and overrun by peculiar monsters.

Instead of the 2024 “Silent Hill 2” remake being exclusive to certain platforms, the upcoming game in the series, referred to as “Silent Hill f,” is planned for release on multiple platforms. Konami has confirmed that it will be available not only on PlayStation 5 and Steam but also on Xbox Series X/S, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. Despite a dedicated event for “Silent Hill f,” the company didn’t specify any release date, leading some to believe it may still be several years away. However, due to past developments in the Silent Hill series, the game could potentially be closer to launch than expected.

Silent Hill f Could Come Out Sooner Than Some Might Expect

Silent Hill f Was Recently Rated by the ESRB

Following the airing of the Silent Hill f broadcast, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) posted the official rating for the upcoming game on their site. Unsurprisingly, Silent Hill f was given a M rating for mature audiences due to its graphic depictions and unsettling themes. The ESRB’s description revealed that the game features scenes of torture, mutilation, and self-harm, though no backstory is provided for these violent acts. It’s clear that Silent Hill f isn’t intended for the sensitive or easily disturbed.

Most Games Are Released Less than a Year After Receiving an ESRB Rating, So Silent Hill f May Be Launched Soon

What makes the ESRB rating of Silent Hill f noteworthy isn’t so much the content itself, but rather the fact that it has been rated at all. Typically, games receive an ESRB rating well before they are released, and Konami’s titles follow this trend. For example, the remake of Silent Hill 2 was given its ESRB rating towards the end of March in 2024, approximately six months before it hit shelves on October 8. Given this pattern, it seems plausible that Silent Hill f may also be released within a similar timeframe.

If Silent Hill game ‘f’ adheres to the same release strategy as Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2, it could possibly be launched by Q3 2025, or between July and September. In this scenario, Konami will need to carefully manage its upcoming lineup to prevent any negative effects on their game sales. For the year 2025, Konami has two significant projects lined up: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Edens Zero, with the latter not having a specific release window as of now.

Silent Hill f’s Placement on Konami’s Release Schedule Depends on Other Upcoming Games

Given that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to drop on August 28, 2025, it’s unlikely that Silent Hill f will also be released in the same month. Instead, it might come out either before or after August. If Silent Hill f isn’t prepared for a Q3 2025 launch, Konami could follow the pattern they set with the Silent Hill 2 remake and release the game in October instead. Provided that Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t occupy that month, a horror game like Silent Hill f would perfectly complement the Halloween vibe.
