Silent Hill f Seems to Have Problems on PS5 Pro

As the release of *Silent Hill f* approaches, early technical reviews indicate that players with a PlayStation 5 Pro might encounter performance issues. This means *Silent Hill f* joins a growing number of games that haven’t been fully optimized for the PS5 Pro console.

As a huge Silent Hill fan, I’m so excited about *Silent Hill f* – it’s the newest game in the series after so long! Neobards Entertainment really seems to have nailed it. It’s coming out on September 25th for PC, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S, and early reviews are amazing! Everyone’s talking about how great the story is, how creepy the monsters look, and the really cool setting in 1960s Japan. The only downside seems to be that it’s not running as smoothly as it should on the PlayStation 5 Pro, which is a bit disappointing.

Silent Hill f Seemingly Has Glaring Visual Issues on PS5 Pro

Digital Foundry’s latest analysis of Silent Hill f shows that while PS5 owners can choose between graphics quality (30fps) and smooth performance (60fps), PS5 Pro users are locked into a single “Enhanced” mode that combines both. This mode always uses the PS5 Pro’s AI upscaling technology, which generally maintains the 60fps target and makes the game look sharper. However, the analysis also found noticeable visual problems, including flickering grass, grainy shadows, and unstable reflections.

Performance Scaling and Sharpening Reconstruction (PSSR) seems to be causing visual issues in *Silent Hill f*, sometimes making scenes look worse than on the standard PS5. While the base PS5 can drop to a very low internal resolution of 360p in Performance mode, the PS5 Pro Enhanced mode of *Silent Hill f* appears to render at around 720p and then upscale to 4K using PSSR. This low starting resolution might be the cause of the strange graphics some players are seeing on the PS5 Pro, but Konami hasn’t yet commented on the problem.

Players of the 2024 *Silent Hill 2* remake on the PS5 Pro experienced several problems, and it appears the upcoming *Silent Hill f* is facing similar issues on the same console. Last month’s release, *Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater*, also ran worse on the PS5 Pro than on the standard PS5. These Konami games all use Unreal Engine 5, which may not be fully compatible with Sony’s PSSR technology. Sony is developing an improved version of PSSR scheduled for release with the PS5 Pro in 2026. Until then, Konami is expected to address the performance problems with *Silent Hill f*, as well as the *Snake Eater* and *Silent Hill 2* remakes, on the PS5 Pro.
