In the May 13 Silent Hill broadcast, Konami unveiled an exciting new trailer for the upcoming game, Silent Hill f, and delved deeper into its development process with several key creators. The producer of the Silent Hill game series, Motoi Okamoto, the franchise’s composer, Akira Yamaoka, and the writer of Silent Hill f, Ryukishi07, shared insights on choosing 1960s Japan as the game’s setting, influences for the music and creature designs, and the central theme of “discovering beauty in fear.” It was disclosed that Silent Hill f is set in a fictional city called Ebisugaoka, modeled after Kanayama, Geru from Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, and home to protagonist Hinako. Ebisugaoka has been shrouded in fog and overrun with grotesque monsters, forcing Hinako to battle through the horrors, conquer challenging puzzles, and confront her own psyche, before facing a grim ultimatum.

In the spirit of the classic psychological horror of the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill f intends to deliver the fundamental aspects of the franchise in a fresh and unique manner. The traditional settings of the Otherworld with its chain-link fences and barbed wire are replaced by overgrown flowers and twisted tendrils in this game. The monsters, too, have been given a Japanese horror twist, bringing fear to life. Ryukichi07 hinted that the storyline contains several enigmatic elements, suggesting that players may wish to replay the game multiple times to uncover the answers to the questions they will likely encounter during their initial playthrough of the title. Okamoto and Yamaoka emphasized that the game will retain the feel of a Silent Hill experience while offering something new for both seasoned players and newcomers to appreciate.
