The producer of the Silent Hill game series, Motoi Okamoto, the franchise’s composer, Akira Yamaoka, and the writer of Silent Hill f, Ryukishi07, shared insights on choosing 1960s Japan as the game’s setting, influences for the music and creature designs, and the central theme of “discovering beauty in fear.” It was disclosed that Silent Hill f is set in a fictional city called Ebisugaoka, modeled after Kanayama, Geru from Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, and home to protagonist Hinako. Ebisugaoka has been shrouded in fog and overrun with grotesque monsters, forcing Hinako to battle through the horrors, conquer challenging puzzles, and confront her own psyche, before facing a grim ultimatum.
