Sims 4 Save Files Still Corrupt After a Year!

Summary

  • The Sims 4 developers are investigating a save file corruption bug linked to the For Rent expansion pack.
  • The For Rent expansion was released in 2023 and received negative reviews due to bugs, like corrupted save files.

The creators of “The Sims 4” are currently looking into a persistent problem related to a save file corruption bug, specifically linked to the game’s For Rent expansion pack. This bug in “The Sims 4” has been troubling fans for over a year now, and they are appealing to players for assistance in resolving it.

The “For Rent” update was initially launched on December 7, 2023, making it the 15th complete expansion pack for the game since its debut in fall 2014. This update introduced popular features such as building apartments in “The Sims 4” and taking up a landlord career, however, it garnered mostly unfavorable reviews from fans on Steam and other online rating platforms, primarily due to the numerous bugs it came with at its release.

In a communication through The Sims Direct Twitter account, the development team acknowledged a severe bug in Sims 4 that many players have encountered, which has resulted in their game save files becoming damaged beyond repair and unplayable shortly after installing the expansion. This glitch has wiped out years of in-game neighborhoods that fans had been cultivating and enjoying. The team is actively working to fix this corruption issue with Sims 4 save files and encourages players who have experienced this bug to keep sharing any pertinent information they can and upload their corrupted files to the official EA Forums for further investigation.

Sims 4 Devs are Still Working to Fix Year-Old Data Corruption Bug

The influx of responses to EA and Maxis’ social media post is overwhelming, but not quite as they anticipated. Instead of providing information about the file corruption issue in the For Rent expansion, most comments are voicing complaints about other ongoing problems in Sims 4 that the development team has yet to address. The weather bug, which allows rain and snow to enter homes, seems to be the most frequently mentioned among these issues. Players also complain about lag when the Social Bunny appears, textures disappearing during character customization, and various bugs related to infants.

Instead of persistently attempting to resolve decades-old glitches in the game, some players are now advocating that EA and Maxis move on and introduce The Sims 5 as the next step. Following last year’s announcement of Project Rene, many players were disappointed when they learned that it wouldn’t be The Sims 5, and furthermore, there are no immediate plans to create The Sims 5. Instead, the team is focusing on expanding the current game universe.
