As a seasoned spacefarer with countless voyages under my belt, I find myself navigating through the dilapidated halls of this derelict station, guided by the wisdom of Sirak’s logs. The journey so far has been a rollercoaster ride, filled with unexpected twists and turns that would make even the most hardened spacers wince.
Titled “Shattered Space,” this eagerly awaited first narrative expansion for Bethesda Game Studios’ open-world space RPG “Starfield” leads players on a journey to an isolated and secret star system – the epicenter of House Va’ruun, a mysterious and enigmatic entity. Expect to unearth potent new weapons, embark on fresh quests, and meet intriguing new characters in this thrilling new narrative.
In Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC, players can initiate the ‘What Remains’ storyline by navigating to any unoccupied star system. Upon entry, a cryptic message triggers the first mission of the DLC. ‘What Remains’ is a quest with a linear path but includes challenging sections, so here’s a guide on how to complete it, find all four of Sirak’s logs, and earn the What Remains achievement.
How to Start What Remains
Travel directly to any star system devoid of ongoing missions or tasks. Receive a signal there. Later, navigate towards The Oracle Star Station, dock, and initiate your mission.
Explore The Oracle
Within The Oracle, you’ll find a fairly ordinary hub, but the challenge lies in its zero-gravity environment. However, the effort is rewarding as you discover an array of valuable items hidden throughout the ship’s compartments. From weapons and ammunition to suits, helmets, and even piles of credits, there are plenty of treasures to uncover!
There’s only one way forward, and it leads to a story scene involving two scientists, Basira and Sirak. Loot the access card from Basira and then head into the station proper. At this point, there’ll be an update to the mission granting a main and an optional objective.
It’s not necessary to delay your primary goal until you’ve completed the optional one, as it’s more feasible to tackle them simultaneously. Attempting to finish the optional objective first won’t work and could lead to frustration because you can’t access Log #4 without entering the Engineering Control Bay first.
Find the Engineering Bay Controls
This task can be accomplished since it’s clearly indicated by a mission objective on the Heads-Up Display (HUD). Simply follow this objective to locate and engage with the card reader, which will subsequently provide you with a revised objective.
Sirak’s Log #1 Location
The first of Sirak’s logs can be found just next to the main mission objective, but the player will be blocked from going any further due to security doors. Pick up the log and head back to the main room with all the blue glowing bits to find the second log, and to advance the quest.
Find an Engineering Bay Access Card
Upon entering the primary chamber, proceed straight ahead towards the expansive area up front, which features a large, radiant orb of blue matter encompassing a serpent statue. Keep an eye out, as Vortex Phantoms inhabit this space, but they should not cause significant trouble.
Sirak’s Log #2
Sirak’s Log #2 is located at the base of the central tunnel, perched on a podium. Grab it and proceed towards the goal of our mission.
Traverse the room that resembles a mess hall or cafeteria, exiting from the far side where the corridor concludes at a security door. To one side of the security door, you’ll notice a closed orange-hued door. Proceed through this door and make your way into the hydroponics room. Descend to the bottom of this space, but be mindful as crates have obstructed the pathway.
Move the Crates
Climb the stairs to your right where you’ll find a small room, enter it and locate the buttons that control the crates obstructing your path. Once pressed, these crates will move, allowing you to advance. Pressing Button 1 summons a spectral entity called a Vortex Phantom. Navigate through the now-open area to discover a hatch, but beware as another Vortex Phantom guards it.
Navigate the Residential Area
The hatch leads towards a residential area. The area has some decent loot, including some locked safeboxes, and lore notes, so it’s worth looting. Once that’s done, float all the way to the top to find a control room-type area.
Sirak’s Log #3
Sirak’s Log #3 will be located within a residential-style room on the right side. Nearby, the mission objective will become visible.
Grab the Access Card
Heading further down this very corridor, you’ll come across a workspace that feels like an Engineer’s lair. This hideout holds the coveted Engineering Bay Access Card, but it’s not all work here – there are also some impressive weapons and loot up for grabs! After securing your new gear, retrace your steps through the corridor to unlock the shortcut back to the Engineering Bay.
Access the Engineering Bay
Making my way through the bustling cafeteria and ascending towards the Engineering Bay, I’m careful as retrieving the Access Card seems to summon a few Vortex Phantoms along the route. Keep your guard up! Upon reaching the Engineering Bay, it’s time to unlock the door.
Restoring Power
Try to get the power back on, then make your way up to the upper level in the engineering area. A security door blocks the path ahead, but there’s another room nearby that you can access from this one.
Sirak’s Log #4
Sirak’s Log #4 can be found on a table near a computer in an adjoining room. Retrieve it, and subsequently search for a doorway that opens into another corridor.
Find the Power Receptacle
Traverse through the corridors and step into a room brimming with trash bags suspended mid-air. Later on, pass through into another space filled with assorted debris drifting about. At the extremity of this chamber lies an empty power outlet yearning for a Power Cell. Since it accepts all types, you don’t need to search for a specific one; however, just in case, there’s a hidden Power Cell nestled among the floating trash.
Enable Gravity
After the security door unlatches, proceed through it to witness the events with Sirak. Subsequently, employ the computer to restore gravitational forces within the station. Then, make your way back down to the primary power controls utilizing the backup pack and activate the auxiliary power.
Head to the Operations Center
Return to the central hub and navigate towards the Operations Center. Once the sequence concludes, prepare for an ambush by Sirak and the Phantoms. Defeat them all, and don’t forget to retrieve Sirak’s Operations Access Card as a reward for victory.
Reboot the Mainframe
Go reboot the mainframe on your computer and then be patient until the process finishes. Our base will then move to the Va’ruun home system in the House system. You should finish the quest and receive a nice amount of XP and credits as a reward. Remember to also search for an Industrial Crate inside the Operations Center, it usually contains a good sum of credits. Achieving What Remains for the first time on an unaltered save will grant you the Shattered Space What Remains achievement.
