It was a long time coming for a new Skate game, and our feelings are a little mixed.
This game is a live service title, meaning it has all the features you’d expect from that type of game. Despite that, we’re hopeful about where it’s going, especially since it’s still in Early Access and the developers have a lot of room to make improvements.
Ultimately, here’s where we stand right now:
Honestly, as a big fan of the original Skate games, this new one totally delivers! If you’re like me and just want to jump back into that awesome skating gameplay on today’s consoles and PCs, it’s exactly what you need. It really hits the spot!
With that being said, let’s take a look at how the live service aspect is progressing.
Oh, well, that’s not good.
Just a quick note: Skate 3 had a fantastic Dead Space-themed skin that was free and, honestly, looked much better than the options we have now.
I keep hearing people say *Skate* is a free-to-play game with optional purchases, but honestly, spending over forty bucks on just a skin – even one that used to be free – feels totally ridiculous to me.
Skate’s Overpriced Dead Space Skin Is The Latest In An Unfortunate Trend

Adding to the frustration, the ridiculously high prices are part of a continuing pattern of companies trying to charge us more and more.
Xbox Game Pass recently announced a 50% price increase. Also, Electronic Arts (EA) was just bought for $55 billion by a group backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
People are upset about the costume. One fan commented, “It’s not even a proper Metal RIG – it looks like it was made with cardboard and tape! What was the thinking behind this?”
As the original poster put it, people will always defend these huge companies, no matter what they do.
That raises the question: what sounds better for around $40 – a cosmetic skin for Skate, or Expedition 33, a popular game with over 5 million copies that’s getting free updates? Or would you rather support the talented teams behind the highly anticipated indie games Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2?
Alternatively, I’ve been enjoying a simple pleasure: playing the game Megabonk while getting Pad Thai from a nearby restaurant. It’s a much better way to spend forty dollars, especially considering the game actually crashed while I was trying to take screenshots for this piece!
